Question about 2001 Mercury Cougar
The valve assembly has failed. This is a major malfunction, it will cost you well over $1000 to fix it.
Most likely the service had nothing to do with it, it has just failed from old age. Unless of course he has put the wrong oil or it hasn't tightened the bolts from the pan hard enough and you lost all the oil. The next mechanic will tell you what went wrong.
