Question about 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Battery indicator light blinks sometimes, in random ways, even though battery is good. Do you assume the sensor is old and unreliable? Or do you look for another cause?

Look to your alternator for a single plug in wire next to the main plug and make sure it's not loose.

Have ln85 hilux won't start some time turn key and nothing. Have replaced starter motor, ignition switch and battery still the Same will randomly not start

There could be multiple issues here and it's hard to say without really looking/running numbers - is there power (lights/dash symbols/etc) when you turn the key? Or completely dead?

If completely dead, did you see a random brake light while driving? That could indicate a bad alternator. Does jumping it start her? If so, possible you have a parasitic draw in the system draining the battery.

Ground wires are important to check, also.

Off hand, without much data to work with, mass air flow sensors can cause a no start - try unplugging this and starting. You can also backprobe to test sensor and harness for ground. This may not throw a code right away.

I see "sometime," so if assuming a start at times and others not randomly - recheck ignition switch assembly wires, follow them and see if any are loose. A friend had this issue and found the ignition switch assembly wire coming from the alarm was loose.

No codes and random starting, I'd lean wiring. Maybe retrace your steps - it sounds like you tackled the more indicative issues already.

My 2001 catera shuts off at random and the "s" light starts blinking?

The 'S' you discribe must surely be the Sport Mode on light, which is turned on and off by the button on top of the shift lever. Must likely problems with a battery issue like that would probably be an alternator problem, or simply a poor electrical connection.

Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop .

Attempted to start my 2006 Mustang but I'm not getting any response other than a clicking noise near the right rear wheelwell. Battery check indicates it's fully charged. Could this be a senso

Sounds like the starter relay module is bad. It is the box with cooling fins on it, mounted on the cooling fan bracket close to the fan. It requires an 8 M/M socket to remove wiring harness from the module. Also always remove negative battery cable when performing any electrical procedures to prevent any accidental arcing

How do i know my oil pressure sensor is gone bad?

if it is dead then you will not have an oil light on during the starting sequence when all warning lights are lit. if it has become unreliable then the oil light will flicker on and off even though there is oil pressure. they are cheap and easy to replace so the best way is to get a new one and if does the same thing as the old one did then it was good. if your engine is over 10 years old, most likely the oil pump itself is no longer putting out the pressure it should.

1998 Mercury Marquis: Battery indicator light blinks in random, unpredictable ways (not all the time), even though battery is good. Could the sensor be old and unreliable? Or would you trust sensor and...

The light comes on when the alternator voltage/current is low or if there is a short that is draining the battery. If it's blinking, the voltage is probably near the lower limit of acceptable voltage. Recommend checking voltage at the battery with car running. Should be at least 14 volts. If you don't have a voltmeter, take the alternator off and have it tested at the parts store. Let us know if you have more questions.

Will not start with either key and remote will not work..get fast flashing light from security system..seems worse in cold weather

bad cell in battery or vehicle not in park ...but my experience 2 months ago happened this same thing even though i had good lights and the battery seemed good turned out to be a dead cell in the battery // just having a connection of the jumper-cables took a mere second to start it ......

the fast flashing light usually indicates a code read the blinks and look up the code it may be 1 set of blinks followed by another set

could also be a connection issue to the battery corrosion etc check your connections for this as well
