Question about 1999 Audi A6

1 Answer

1999 Audi A6 Avant 2.4L V6 30V (petrol) Oil leak. When i came to do a spark plug change, each spark plug tube was full of oil, and the spark plugs were covered. When the spark plugs are taken out, all of the oil is dumped into the cylinder, resulting in oil being shoved down the exhaust when turning over the engine. This is turn ruins the catalytic converter, resulting in a failed MOT and new catalytic converter. Any ideas as to where this leak is or how to fix it would be much appreciated.

May be totally unrelated but I had the same issue on a 95 civic. It has "spark plug seals" that needed to be replaced. Dealer did it for about $250.

If you saw fresh oil, you were looking at valve cover gasket-seals leaking into the spark plug tubes.

underneath the car in the engine area up in front just back past the front bumper you will find an aluminum cross hatched (criss cross lines) oil pan at the lowest point is the drain plug.

Check the oil sending unit for leaks.

Check the valve cover gasket for leaks that trigged down to the oil sending unit.

Oil sending send intermittent ZERO or low PSI data to the computer ECU.

Lifters making noise after changing spark plugs and oil (to synthetic oil), previously used 5w30 any help..

spark plugs should not have anything to do with new noise, but the oil probably will. did you put 5w30 in just now? i would not put anything in lighter than 5w30. synthetic oil is not better than regular oil, it just allows you to go longer inbetween oil changes. i would go back to 5w30 and if they are still noisy, try 5w40.

1999 Chrysler Sebring Coupe 2.5 oil in spark plug tubes. Replacing valve cover gaskets and spark plug tube seals at top of tubes. Concerned about bottom of tube. Is that an area that might also be...

It is possible the tubes are leaking at the bottom but highly unlikely. There is next to 0 oil pressure in that area so the tubes would actually drain if leaking. I would start with the tube seals and gaskets as you have already planned and check it again later down the road like at the next oil change interval. You're on the right track for the repair, just be patient with the intake plenum and you'll do fine.

you can drain the fluid but you need a special refill tool from a vw /audi garage these are only available from dealers so my advise is take to one of them the oil also has to check at certain temperature (35 degrees celcious) this all done by diagnostic equipment . i live in the uk and i was quoted £105 to change the oil in my a6 its worth having it done than trying to do it yourself
