Question about 1995 Mitsubishi Mirage

When my car is in park it idles normally, but as soon as i switch to drive the rpm decreases qute a bit, and if i put on the ac it even idles lower can it be the IAC valve that needs to be replaced?

You could try adjusting the idleing screw. It should be at the end of the air intake were it mounts to the throttle body. If possible get a Haynes repair manual for your car at the nearest auto parts store it will show you exactly where it is located.

Stall on hot day after idling with ac on


Check the idle RPM and make sure it is set correctly as the ac will put a load on the engine and pull the RPM's down. Normally should be around 800 rpm's when in park.

All the above is normal , except 2000rpm is a little high at idle . can be adjusted down to 1500rpm. the computer adjusts the engine speed . in drive the transmission loads up the engine idle drops to 1000rpm . in park engine unloaded rpm increase all normal.

my guess, car unseen.
car has an A/T trans, and all A/T jump from park to drive
selection is made on a cold engine, due to the very fast idle speed.
what was the park and cold idle speed. and out door temps.
the lower out door temps, make idle speed , cold engine, even higher
but when the engine reaches 180F or more and holds, the RPM
is about 800 RPM (the FSM tells the exact amount and does vary for the unstated engine option) so at 800 the tranny don;t lurch, did it on a hot engine. so if idle speeds are wrong say so and say it with engine temps. or its all meaningless.
next :
runs rough, the engine (even parked?) is called misfire.
misfire on a good engine (full compression)
is:
1: bad spark (or never had a tune up ever) every 60k miles.
2: bad fueling. too rich, too lean (low idle) bad injectors (stuck or clogged, or wrong fuel pump pressure or bad Fuel pressure regulator)
3: bad fuel.

there is a test for each possible failure. all very simple test.
it takes $80 in gauge tools to find engine problems.

This is common on the older hondas, the idle goes up and down, this is caused by a couple of things, you may have low coolant or a bad idle air control valve, the last thing it may be is the power steering preasure switch, this switch is the most common, when you turn the wheel the switch is actived to raise the idle . sometimes that switch shorts out and cause the problem you are having, this switch is located on the powersteering hose, unplug the connector and if the idle stops going crazy then thats the problem.

.the control sensor throttle ,look on the opposite side to the cable and a little box thingy with a wiring connection ,unless its a later vehicle then this will use a fly by wire.But i do fell this type of fault is beyond the average weekend mechanic and i would advise you to visit a dealer

Weird Toyota Paseo idle problem


So far everything you tell me is normal, the A/C being triggered requires the engine to turn a compressor to get the system working, and on a small 4 cylinder engine, to get enough power to turn it and not stall requires revving the engine a bit more to get more horsepower. But i must admit that the normal idle RPMis a bit low. The best quick fix i got for you is to rotate the TPS sensore a bit. If you wander what TPS means, it means Throttle Position Sensor. You can usually find it easily, since it is attached to the throttle butterfly. So if you're not sure where all that is, start by locating the wire that comes out of the gas pedal, it will lead you straight to the throttle butterfly, and the TPS sensor. Oh, and it usually looks like a small black plastic box by the way. Once you found the little TPS sensor, you need to loosen the screws/bolts holding it in place (usually there are only 2 screws holding it) but don't take them off completely though, just loosen them. Now you should be able to turn the TPS sensor a few degrees either way. Start the car and idle it in park. Now go under the hood and turn the TPS sensor one way to see what it does, one way will get the engine idle lower, and the other way will make it idle higher. Just turn it until you get around 1000 RPM on park and tighten the screws again and you should be fine for a while. Hope this helps.:)

Car ideling high


the setting of the idling must be wrong. try this... at first you start the engine, wait till it gets hot then start lowering the idle in the normal rpm. this will sure work. hope this helps

I have 2000 V8 LS thatruns rough in park and at idle in drive.


That is normal.
If you rev it in park it will not rev over 3500 rpm before it hits the rev limiter.

99 GT Forester: Idle Support?


Turns out my airflow metre was fried. ($240 piece of plastic) Was told the cause may have been because of the air pod and long country driving. Have been advised to put the factory airbox back on unless car is used for high performance or wishing to gain maximum performance. After mounting a front cooler on, this should provide sufficient cool air to engine and turbine for every day driving.
