Question about 2004 Chrysler Sebring

1 Answer

Changed the plugs in a 2.7l sebring (2004) and now getting the check engine light with error code p0300. Engine idle at start up also continues to accelerate.

Dealer has indicated that that the p0300 is caused by water in gas. I have used a bottle of gas line antifreeze (methyl hydrate) in a full tank of gas and check engine light went out. filled tank again and half way through tank the check engine light has come back on. At start up the engine continues to increase RPM until engine is turned off. New read of codes show P1684

Hallo
There is something wrong with one of the spark plug or you did not put all the cables on the plugs to the end. Or one of cables or ignition coil(s) is damaged. P 0300 = missfire detected

best regards
Marko

Replaced plugs again with same brand as what was originally removed as per dealer and still same issue. Plugs are good and coils good. Temp reading on ODBII scanner showed temps at -198F. Also recently changed the resonator. Dealer is also stumped at the cause of the P0300 code. Engine light also flashes occasionally.

P 0300 random/ multiple cilinder(s) misfire detected. If you allredy change spark plugs, check ignition coil(s), wiring, injectors or could be low compression. but since problem start after changing plugs, I think that problem is in one of the coil or thers conector.
    hope it helps

    Hallo
The p1684 code means nothing more than the fact that the battery has been disconnected in the last 50 starts. so it is not important.
if wather in fuel is the case, put some aditive. Kent fuel guard II is very good if some water is present.
If you did not disconect batery, check batery conectors. lose contact could also bee the problem and some stroke could be missed (missfire detected)
    hope it helps

Error code p0300 indicates rough idle and p0305 indicates engine misfire in cylinder 5. Check for faulty spark plug and its wiring. Also check for ignition coil and distributor. Replacing spark plug and its wiring may resolve the issue.

Well it could be something in the timing components but I doubt it.
Chances are its a connecting rod or piston.

I found this; if it helps.
The injectors need to be cleaned, if an engine is experiencing any of the classic symptoms of dirty injectors, such as lean misfire, rough idle, hesitation and stumbling on light acceleration, a loss of power, and higher hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions.
Lean misfire may also trigger a misfire code and turn on the Check Engine light on 1996 and newer vehicles with OBD II systems. The code often will be a P0300 random misfire code, or you may find one or more misfire codes for individual cylinders, depending on which injectors are most affected.
