Ot really. If it's serpentine belt you can get a shorter belt and bypass compressor. If you leAve belt on and compressor bearing locks up it could break belt and leave you stranded. ( if it's serpentine, meaning one long belt runs everything). Hope that helps

No, as long as it isn't driving anything else, you can remove the belt.

No tension in belt

Usually, when there is no tension in a belt, this means the belt tensioner has gone bad, or the tensioner idler pulley has gone bad. Is this a serpentine belt, or a timing belt? What is the Year, Make and Model?

there should be a release lever on one of the pulleys so that you can easily put on a new belt once the belt is on make sure the lever reingages, there should also be digram on the engine or close by to walk you through it

+++ been told to fix blue smoke...piston rings gone .

Piston rings, valve seals are a good guess for cause of blue smoke. Engin oil additives for high-mileage engines can help the blue smoke problem... Pep Boys and the like -- many different products -- just make sure it's for stopping smoke, not cleaning engines...

+++ belt gone.

Has the alternator belt been tightened? If not, this could be causing both symptoms: dead battery & squealing

+++ battery light on...alternator gone.

Again, this could just be a loose belt, and most likely is the problem...

Hi, I have a 2002 Audi A4 Avant and when i started it this morning, the power steering had gone completely even though it started perfectly and could go forward and reverse. What could be the problem and...

Check to make sure that the belt is on there. If the drive belt is gone, you'll have no power steering and the battery light will be on. And to put on a belt and replace whatever part made it come off will be very difficult, may even have to pull the front end to the service position, best bet is probably a shop. But if it's just the belt is gone, and your shop is close, you can make it before it runs out of juice from the battery, the coolant is run by the timing belt, so don't worry about over heating it, just killing the battery.

Need instrutions on replacing the Serpentine belt on a 1995 Cadillac STS.

There is a diagram of the way the belt goes near the engine spec sticker under the hood, if it is gone let me know and I will try and find another on the net for you. One note use a factory original belt, they are much better quality than many of the cheaper aftermarket belts.
