My Jetta Volkswagon has been revving lots higher than usual while driving, even if using cruise control. It normally revs at 2000-2100 but lately has been consistent at 3000-3100 at 100kms/hour. Why?

Hi Charley:
An oil change should not have caused this symptom.
I would be guessing that the transmission is not getting into high gear (or overdrive).
Possible causes????
- Check transmission fluid level.
- Check vacuum lines
and, since I'm NOT even pretending to be a transmission expert,
I would contact the dealership where I had the oil changed and ask if they have any idea what the problem might be.
You did not mention year or mileage so it might be that the screens are plugged or bands need adjustment.
Translate that as "time for transmission service"
Best of luck.

How to reset oil light for 2000 jetta vr6

Did you have the oil leak prior to changing the oil? The "change engine oil" indicator is just a service reminder to get the oil changed. You need to reset it. Call your local dealer or check your owner's manual for instructions on doing this. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

2001 Jetta VR6, 76k miles. Transmission fluid leaking, occasional short-term power loss. Have gotten the impression from many that newer VWs need (expensive) VW experts. Can I take this to a friend who...

Auto or Std trans??

If auto here's the issue...

Keep in mind Auto transmissions don't like to be run dry.

Also keep in mind that the 01M Automatic you most likely have retails for like $4000 just for the unit, not installation.

The corner trans guy can't rebuild the trans. This is a special unit

Just to check the fluid-

Hook up a Laptop with Vag.Com software installed.

Start the car and go into the transmissions data blocks and go to block 005, this will display fluid temp.

-ATF temperature not above approx. 30C (86F)
-Vehicle level
-Selector lever in "P"
-If ATF is below 30C (86F) bring the ATF up to test temperature.
Test temperature: 35C to 45 (95 to 113F)
-Remove ATF level plug from oil pan.

CHECKING PHYSICAL QUANTITY

If ATF drips out of hole:
ATF need not be topped up.
-Install new seal on plug and tighten to 15 Nm11 ft lb).
ATF check is completed.

If ATF does not drip out
-Remove plug from filler line.
-Fill with VW ATF (G 052 162 A2) until ATF runs out of level hole
-Install new seal on plug and tighten to 15 Nm (11 ft lb).
ATF check is completed.

CAUTION!
Too little or too much ATF will adversely affect transmission function.

What problems does an alternator cause in a 2001 vr6 jetta

if its not fully generating power you will have dim lights and eventually after a while the battery will not charge enough to start the car. not sure of the voltage for a volkswagon but most other cars it generating about 14 on the guage in the car, you can have it tested for free at any decent auto parts place, pep boys, auto zone or advance auto parts to name a few.

1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.
