Question about 1999 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

My 1999 Ford Taurus has been sitting for about a year. I just put in a new battery. It is turning over just not starting. I also checked two different spark plugs to see if they were firing and they did. Got any ideas?

Try changing the fuel filter first, then listen for the fuel pump running when the key is turned 'on', but not to 'start'. The pump should run for a few moments, then shut off. If it continues to run, then likely the pump is defective and should be replaced. The gas is likely to be 'stale', so the car may be hard starting even after the above is checked and repaired. A little starting fluid in the throttle body might help that. Fill the tank at first opportunity. Hope this helps!

assuming no electrical components work, try a newer battery or hooking the old one to a charger and letting it charge up for a while. batteries will still discharge when disconnected.

Hello,I have 1994 ford taurus that turns over but won't start. It has been sitting for a year. Also when I turn on the key a computer box under the hood, mounted just above the radiator buzzes. Please give...

They're shouldnt be any computers near the radiator. Your coputer would be mounted inside the car or on then fender/firwall (away from heat). Make sure the battery is fully charged and that the distributar cap/rotor are not corroded. Also make sure the gas hasn't gone bad (get water in it after sitting). Put some water remover in the tank and try to ad fresh gas if your not able to drain the tank. You could also have bad/clogged injectors after sitting but highly doubtful if it ran fine a year ago. Check the easy things I mentioned first. Spray som starting fluid in the throttle body while holding the throttle wide open when starting (need 2 people for this) see if it tries to fire, if it does try you are not getting gas or not good gas. Out the water remover in first and as much new/fresh gas as possible.

Car wont start

I can only say that for the old cars even sitting for a year is not healthy, because most parts of engine, starting system, charging system will get corroded/deposited. Most probably you will need to change battery, motor oil, fuel, spark plugs, check the starter and alternator. Also check the fuel pump, fuel filter. First shot would be battery, fuel, spark plugs and starter.
Good Luck
