The thermostat is the easyest place to start with but im betting on a pluged heater core your gonna have to back flush the heater core take off the hoses to the heater and some how connect a garden hose then slowly turn the water on watch and observe anything coming out.

starting with the thermostat 2-morrow and the core next, but has NO leakage? What could block the hoses with clean fluid in the system?

It would at first blush appear this would be because you are going at a sufficiently low speed and/or the load is that great that it needs a lower gear for the torque needed to apply to offset that load.

What would cause a 1994 Ford Ranger to heat to the L of 'NORMAL' on the gauge after a new thermostat was installed? It has never been past the r/m consistently.

if it is a genuine ford ranger thermostat it should be the same, however if it is an after market one (non genuine ) that may be the problem as thermostats have different "start to open" & "fully open" temperatures......hope this helps......cheers.

I have a 2006 Ford Ranger and the heat is stuck on on. Even when I move the handle to cool it still heats. Do you have any suggestions, thanks Al Shults.

Hello
This problem is caused by one or both of the following parts, one is the air temperature control blend door actuator motor, the next is the actual blend door, the shaft that the electric actuator moves is snapped off due to the door binding, both problems cause no air temperature control and you either get heat or cold with no control to change it. The problem is very common in the Ranger and the Explorer.

No heat in cab in ford ranger 2005 tied heater

check if both heater hoses going into firewall are hot.. if only one is hot then your heater core is stopped up..you can take both lines loose and take a water hose and back flush,,, force hose on one inlet of heater core for a minute and then the other.. keep going to you get a good flow...make sure heater valve is open, not just valve position take loose and confirm clear..last make sure your thermostat is not stuck open keeping engine from comming up to temperature

Ford ranger 2002 6 4.0 LTR truck over heating.

The water is from the thermostat housing, fairly common leak. The ticking maybe from the timing chain cassette. You may have already had the cam timing slip (the cam gears are not keyed, they are held in place by torque alone. The oil gauge sounds like an electrical problem (either sender or sender wiring).
