I believe the gear ratio is in code in the v.i.n number. Maybe you can find out on a GM website...maybe

I have a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4X4 4L automatic. I have been told the rear gears are shot. Where do I find what the ratio is. I was told to look on the gear housing plate and it would tell me....

there should be a tag on the differential that will have the ratio stamped on it.if its missing you can try calling the dealer to see if they would be able to tell you by using the vin#.or you can pull the cover off and rotate the differential and find the #s stamped on ring gear.

How can you tell what trans is in 01 grand cherokee laurado 4.0

Here is an article I found talking about the Transmission. The second generation Grand Cherokee: 1999-2004 Jeep WJ The first Grand Cherokee was redesigned in 1999, for lower production cost and greater performance and reliability; it was Chrysler's first use of an electronic bus to replace individual wires throughout the body.

Jeep five-speed automatic transmission

An all-new, electronically-controlled transmission with five forward ratios including an alternate second gear ratio for improved performance for passing and better fuel economy is available with the V-8 only, and was designed specifically for Jeeps.

The transmission features unique characteristics such as a tall, 3.00:1 first gear that gives the driver better initial acceleration. Real-time driver adaptive shifting fine-tunes the shift pattern to the driver, while an alternate second gear ratio gives the driver five forward ratios. During acceleration, second gear has a ratio of 1.67. Depending on speed and throttle position, both this gear and an alternate 1.50 second gear ratio are available for kick-down operation, making the down-shift smoother. Its reverse gear ratio is equal to the first gear ratio, to allow for heavier loads.

Other features include three planetary gear sets that combine the widest range of gear ratios available in any transmission in its class. Combined with precise step selections, this brings smooth shifts and maximum power and optimal fuel economy.

The transmission is built at the Indiana Transmission Plant in Kokomo, Indiana, in an all-new 1.2-million square-foot (110,000 m2) facility.

My front differential went out on my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee about 8 months ago. Since then Ive replaced it three times with a new front end (used). Last time it lasted one day before going out. Am I...

If that's a 4 wheel drive make sure the front gear ratio matches the rear ratio or you'll destroy the gears everytime. I had the same problem with my '97 Grand Cherokee..

2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee won't shift out of first gear and the fault codes are P0733 and P0734.

P0733=Gear 3 Incorrect Ratio
P0734=Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio,
your transmission is in "limp" mode,
Have the following sensors checked on the transmission,input sensor,output sensor,and speed sensor.
The transmission is not getting a signal from one of them,So it doesn't know how fast your going so it doesn't up shift.

I have a v8 grand cherokee manufactured 12/95 and i need to know gear ratios/part number to replace my transfer case (it ripped apart and fell off...awesome). thanks!

Should only be 1 or 2 cases that fit behind the v8. It is going to be determined by if you have auto 4WD, or manual. Gear ratios should be similar between the 2.

Diffrental !

You can only use other Grand Cherokee rears.
Check the gear ratio on the tag of the rear. You need to replace with the same ratio.
But in your case since it's a 2x2, you can use any other ratio as long as the tire sizes are the same.
This will not affect the speedo accuracy.
