do you hear the fuel pump come on when you turn the key?

do you have power to the injectors?

Have you checked for injector pulse?

    3.1 or 3.4 liter?

have you checked resistance of the injectors. On the old 3.1 liters if an injector fails it will shut the ngine down.

hear fuel pump on key turn. engine is 3.1. power to injectors. believe they have pulse. could it be knock censor?

Definitely not a knock sensor.

Just to clarify, you spray starting fluid in the intake and it will start and run for a short time and then stall?

gasoline and then ether. would run then stall.

I know you replaced the fuel pump but have you checked the actual pressure.

I still think checking for injector pulse is the next step. You can use a test light hooked to power and then probe the ground side of one of the injector connectors. The test light should flash when you crank the car over.

I also think it wouldn't be a bad idea to pull the plenum and check the resistance of each injector. They should be around 12 ohms. There is a way to check each bank at the bulk plug at the back of the motor but I can't for the life of me remember the color of the wires you need to check.

    shorted cam position sensor?

  • cheap repair Oct 09, 2010

    crank position sensor

probably wouldn't have spark and or run for a short period with a shot of starting fluid. Cam Posisiton sensor isn't a bad idea. It would still help to know whether or not there is injector pulse.

looked for and can't find cam sensor. haven't tested injectors yet (sick kids).

Cranks but wont start

Likely a fuel delivery problem.

Check the filter, as it may be clogged and due for replacement. To test for fuel delivery, open your airbox and spray some starter fluid (purified ether, usually) down into the throttle body while someone else cranks the engine. If it fires up and runs for a few seconds but won't run without spraying the starter fluid, then you know you've got spark and compression. If that's the case, there could be any number of potential issues: throttle position sensor (not very common, but it does happen), fuel injectors clogged (common if you use low-grade fuel), fuel filter/strainer clogged (filters should be replaced every 30k miles or so, on average), fuel pump failure (you should hear a buzzing from the fuel pump when you crank the engine).

If the starter fluid doesn't help, then the problem is no spark. Check each plug/cable for fouling.

My mitsubishi eclipse 95 gs wont start and theres no light on my dash bored it will cranck but wont start at all i need help asap

Since the engine cranks, the battery, starter motor/starter motor solenoid are most likely
good, so suspect everything else on the list. When you narrow it down, re-post with a
more specific question about that particular component, since 100s of components must operate
nearly perfectly for a vehicle to actually start.

Priority Action Part Type -- Cause
1 Inspect Battery -- Battery Discharged or Faulty.

I just replaced the battery. Car cranks but does not start. I dont think its the starter. what can it be?

Lotta things - first things to check are tune-up items: spark plugs, spark plug wires, air filter,
rebreather filter, oil filter, fuel filter, in-tank fuel strainer, ignition control module/distributor cap/rotor,
PCV valve

Most probable cause: lack of spark from the ignition system
2nd most probable cause: engine starved for fuel due to fuel system problem: fuel filter, fuel pump,
in-tank fuel pump or clogged in-tank fuel strainer.

Replaced everything under the sun on our 87 olds delta 88...wont fire on its own but will fire and run fine as long as u shoot it with starter fluid. We replaced starter, fuel pump, filter, plugs, wires,...

Can you here the fuel pump running?no, check fuse, and pump relay. Check pump fuel pressure,at the fuel injector rail,or throttle body. Check for voltage at the top wiring on the fuel nozzel. While cranking look for pulsating voltage.None, test computer, scan system. let me know the outcome.

'90 lexus es250 wont start..

Get it diagnosed correctly. This is why we have 20,000 dollars of diagnostic equipment. If we were to guess I would of suggested the fuel pump.

This defineatly was not an alternator issue or a starter issue or battery by what your symptoms were.

You could have a failed computer or crank sensor or ignition module. Only testing will tell you what is not at fault and what is.
