will do. should I see a transmission specialist? the fact that the car is not working in drive is leading me to think the transmission is damaged.

Definitely, when the light "check engine" light, is because some sensor faults found in the vehicle. I suggest doing a scan to know exactly what fault code is that you have stored in the PCM.

Send us this code number to send additional details.

Hi, before you visit a transmission specialist, i will require you to have the engine CPU scanned for trouble code's. This can only be administered with the assistance of a diagnostic computer (OBD-II) scan tool. You can purchase this tool, at your local auto parts store, or you can just have the scan ran at yourlocal auto zone parts store, free of charge. Once the diagnostic scan is administered, you will be able to isolate the issues that have caused the check engine light to illuminate.
This scan tool will display a print out code and the location of the issue, on the engine, as well. There are Many issues that will cause the engine light to illuminate which may not be a transmission problem...

Hi, yes it seems more to be a transmission issue, but scanning the engine CPU will narrow down the main fault in the transmission (maybe a cable fault in the transmission) which might be a very minor problem rather than thinking you have a damaged transmission.

The scanning really help especially once you have the check engine light on...

2004 Jeep? grand Cherokee?
why 2 digits?, where did you see that? very odd that.
are you posting to year 2004 in error?
do post car brand model, GC.
and post year, post engine option (size)

beg, barrow, rent or get loaned (many stores loan it) or ask you mech.
to scan the PCM. (watch out for poor shops with ratty tools)

any scan tool that has JEEP factory code support works best.
one of the best is INNOVA 3160

or drive to any auto repair shop. and ask them to scan car
many will do it for free, as good faith and easy way to get work.

jeeps 1996 to 2000 any scan tool works
93-95 year needs a special OBD1 jeep scan tool , $150?
old that 1993 , only very expensive dealer type tools work. DRB1 or 2.

the operators guide in the glove box, says what to do .
did you lose that?

My check engine light is on in my 2004 jeep grand cherokee. I have 60000 miles on it and I dont know why the check engine light is on. Also whenever I switch from drive to reverse it is very jerky and...

The check engine light is a general warning that you have a problem that needs attention. Diagnosis of the problem requires a computer scan. You can have this done at most auto shops and parts stores, and many will run the scan at no cost to you. Your transmission problem may be the cause of the light, but even if it's not, the scan may give you some insight into it as well.

The miss, does not just come and go,if it is a engine valve, replace the coil and boot,go from there,if this does not solve the problem, then the injector is gone out,or going out.If it is a engine valve, the miss would never get better, then worse,it would be the same all the time, get him to run a air compression test, get the valves up(close)and see if any air is detected threw the exhaust,or the intake,it will be present if the valve is the problem.

Many Grand Cherokees have had this type of issue. The thread is lengthy, but does cover just about every type of issue known with the tail/brake lights.

P0505 means the whole Idle Control system, not only the IAM. Check all related sensors (i.e. crankshaft sensor). Check with a voltmeter direct at the connector of the IAM if you get any signal. Remove the IAM from the TB, connect him, let someone switch your ignition key to ON. The IAM need to drive in/out for a short time to find the right position. Hold the IAM near a hard part, that they cant drive out completely! If IAM works fine, check the fuel pressure, check and clean your TB ( if not done yet). If that doesn't work, come back again please

Difference between oil sending unit and the oil pressure switch

Same part...make sure you get one for gauge, not idiot light though. If the engine has any knocking or ticking when pressure drops do not drive it and have a mechanical gauge installed to check actual pressure. Parts often have different names for same item...your driveshaft is actually called a propeller shaft!!!
