Question about Honda Civic

2 Answers

Hello we just replaced the computer in my 05 civic and car worked fine until two days later and now the engine light is on and the battery light is on and the fuel pump relay clicks and engine light blinks and car almost quits then the engine light comes on and stays on and the battery light goes out and the tach quits and the car runs a little better but no power at all. Also the converter gets blood red.

As I mentioned in the above question the scanner will not communicate with the ECU and when it does it comes up as no codes present. I already checked the converter and it not plugged.

  • ractive857 Oct 02, 2010

Yes of course. Its charging fine

  • ractive857 Oct 03, 2010

I had the reprogramming done at the dealer I hope that they would know this and make sure it was done. However I'm not 100% sure that it is. Very interesting point thank you I will talk to the dealer and see if they have done this. I feel the car has fried another computer would you have any suggestions as to why this has happened...

  • ractive857 Oct 03, 2010

I have removed the catalytic and started it and all the same symptoms are still present. I also looked in the converter and it is not plugged or broken apart. I also have stripped the wiring harness from the enging clean to the computer and found no breaks in the wiring or any visible problems with it.

  • ractive857 Oct 03, 2010

I own my own scanner and everytime I check for codes it comes up as no codes persent or it will not communicate with my scanner. Sometimes it will communicate and thats when I get the no codes present but other times it will not communicate at all.

  • ractive857 Oct 03, 2010

Thank you for all your assistance in this matter. I will be talking to the dealer tomorrow hopefully and hopefully we can come up with a solution. Do you feel a bad ground from the battery could cause the problems with the computer I mean causing them to go bad.

  • ractive857 Oct 03, 2010

not so much wires getting switched. The main ground cable coming from the battery to the inner fender and then down to the tranny is frayed and corroded a bit I wonder if this could not be the cause of our troubles

Hi!!
Whenever you install a new, reprogrammable control unit/module, check that it has the latest software, and update it if needed.
Was the PCM upgraded before installation??
Keep me posted!!

If the new computer is fried, it could be because a faulty or shorted sensor, take a look at the wiring around the catalytic converter. Also, the catalytic has to be replaced. Try removing the catalytic and start the engine, it is going to make a lot of noise but check for the symptoms you described earlier.

  • Rene J Solis Oct 03, 2010

That is good news, now, need to check the computer's codes, borrow a scanner from AutoZone, Checkers or Similar Store and let me know what codes came up.

  • Rene J Solis Oct 03, 2010

Well, it seems that all is taking us back to the PCM. Talk to the dealer that did the programing, explain the symptoms and what you have done to troubleshoot the problem. Although some times is better just explain the new problems you have been having since they reprogram the PCM and see what they have to say. If this problems were not there before the new reprogrammed PCM, I believe they have something to do with it and at least take a look at the vehicle and give you a diagnostic. If the problem is PCM related, they should reprogram/replace the unit. Good Luck!1

As you know, electronic equipment is very delicate and susceptible to very low amounts of electricity, even static electricity can cause damage, if wires get mixed up, they can seriously damage the ECM

  • Rene J Solis Oct 04, 2010

On vehicles about 80% of the electrical problems is a ground wire, It may be your problem source. Just make sure no shorts are present before connecting the new PCM.

Check Engine light indicates stored codes in the ECU.Once you scan the codes it will indicate the exact area and part which is faulty ...So i would suggest you to get an scan done at any Autozone shops(they does it for free)..

What i feel is the converter can be clogged up ...But the scan will reveal the exact fault

It can be low fuel pressure or clogged fuel filter or issue with IAC valve.

It can be the issue with weak battery or faulty battery or if battery is ok,then its faulty starter causing the issue.

2003 civic stalls at stop

If a Honda is not producing enough amps it could cause it to stall but the battery should die if its the alternator. Sounds like the coil or distibutor.

04onda civic when driving it it just died and wont start does nothing lights wont come on it did it before and a day later it started battery is good

Your problem sounds like a dirty or loose battery term either on + or - or dirty fuse or relay problem.
So start the engine in Park and open the bonnet and play with the battery wires plus any relays and fuses in box to see if the lights and engine stop if not then take it to the auto elect shop as it can cause a problem in the Alternator.
