99 dodge was reset the check engine light came back on in about 20 miles po171 system to lean could this be too a clogged fuel filter? The reason i ask is because i had a truck with a fuel filter problem and it would really show up going up hills and such. My 99 dakota has bogged now time only for a moment but it seems like the same type of thing. Plus the truck recently had a new y pipe installed. I can see the oxygen sensor is plugged into it but i did bot do the work so maybe this is the problem?

P0301 is a engine misfire code for #1 cylinder , spark plug or plug wire problem or a bad fuel injector . Po171 system lean code . Lack of fuel , clogged fuel filter , vacuum leak . https://www.obd-codes.com/p0171 There are ways to test O2sensors before replacing . Your best bet take your vehicle to a qualified repair shop .
Lean bank 1 and bank 2 , and throttle actuator system fault. Check reason for lean codes 1st, vacuum leak(s), air inlet boot and hoses, or low fuel pressure / clogged filter. Repair as needed then clear codes and recheck .
Those codes are for "lean" fuel mixture conditions. Look for vacuum hoses or intake vacuum leaks. I asume that this is a 4.6 or 5.4 liter engine in which case there may be a problem with intake manifold gaskets leaking or injector "o" rings leaking. I would advise you to have it diagnosed by a qualified technician and verify the lean condition's cause. Other reason's for lean conditions can be low fuel pressure or bad fuel regulator. Or, possible clogged fuel filter. Ther is also a chance that the oxygen sensors may be causing this.
hope this helps
First thing i would do is take the mass air flow sensor off and clean the small thin wires inside with a non-chlronated brake cleaner let dry for 10 minutes then re-install.If that does'nt help then check the fuel pressure it could be a weak pump or clogged fuel filter. Then check for vacuum leaks and next i would have the injectors cleaned.
This DTC is a very common issue on the V6 and refer at the little rubber elbow on the PVC wears through.
P0171 - System Too Lean (Bank 1) P0174 - System Too Lean (Bank 2).
Those lean codes are for a lean fuel condition. The first thing I would
check is for a vacuum leak. Especially look around the PCV system. Look
for soft or collapsed hoses in the PCV system, (especially the rubber
elbows) these are very common issue for failure and cause of lean codes.
Also check around the intake manifold for leaks or any other hoses that
may have come off.
Next I would check fuel pressure and the fuel filter
for blockage. If the filter is old you might as well replace it. If and
when you find an issue you will have to have a scan tool to reset the
check engine light before you go back through emissions.
PO121 : TP Sensor Performance = The PCM supplies 5V
to the TP sensor(throttle position). The TP sensor is a variable
resistor that drops the voltage to about 4 volts at WOT(wide open
throttle) to less than 1 volt at closed throttle. Some TP sensors are
adjustable. others have a learn procedure to determine closed
throttle.
PO171 Fuel Trim System Lean = In closed loop the PCM
adjusts fuel delivery based on H2OS 1 readings and is indicated by
long & short fuel trim values. If lean the PCM will add fuel (fuel
trim above 0%) & if rich the PCM will reduce fuel(fuel trim below
0%)
PO128 ECT Below Thermostat Regulating Temperature = possible failed thermostat, low or empty on coolant,
Engine Coolant Temp Sensor, Poor connection/Harness/Wires, faulty PCM Connection.
I think you hit the nail on the head , the ECT Sensor ( which is different than the temp sensor for the dash gauge)
po171 is a lean code, and could be likely caused by a plugged fuel filter, or a weak fuel pump, I would recommend changing the fuel filter first since its cheaper.. The filter is located under the rear of the vehicle by the fuel tank, if this doesn't help run, or have run a fuel pressure check to determine if that is the cause. Also look carefully under the hood for any hoses or lines disconnected causing a vacuum leak, this can also cause a lean code
P0171 - Fuel Trim System Lean Bank 1 YOU WILL NEED TO AVE THE DEALER TEST THE O2 SENSOR FOR PROPER SWITCHING, RIGHT NOW IT SHOWS ALWAYS LEAN, THIS MAY BE THE SENSOR OR THE ENGINE MAY REALLY BE LEAN ON FUEL AIR RATIO, AS FAR AS THE SMOKE GOES THE 2 ARE PROBABLY NOT RELATED, HOW MANY MILES ON CAR? IF THE MILES ARE HIGH THEN REPLACE THE O2 SENSOR ON THE CYLINDER BANK WHERE # 1 CYLINDER IS LOCATED, THE SENSOR IS THE ONE BEFORE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER.
