Question about 1998 Subaru Legacy

1 Answer

Hi mileage 98 subaru legacy, had hesitation, check engine light (codes finally determined 3 weeks ago, P0183, P0301, P0325) w/3 codes relating to cylinder 1 misfire, fuel temp sensor A circuit high input, and knock sensor 1 circuit malfunction(bank 1 or single sensor), yesterday heading 2 work, right when I got on the interstate it reduce speed drastically, stalled, restarted and nursed it off the exit with little to no acceration to the peddle. Tried for 20 minutes to get ack 2 normal, wanted to stall everytime I tried accelerating. Now, it won't turn over at all. Changed the plugs, wires, and tested the coil by disconnecting wires and seeing if there is a spark. Any ideas what could be the primary issue? fuel or electric related?

Go have your catalatic converter checked, it may be plugged causing your car to suffocate when you accelerate

I'm curious, did this fix the problem? I have a 1997 Legacy wagon with the exact same error codes, although I haven't (yet) had the loss of power that you've experienced. I'm in the process of working through all the systems that could be involved, but it would be nice to have an idea of where to start.

P0183 Subaru - Fuel Temperature Sensor 'A' Circuit High Input ' Add Comment
Possible causes
- Faulty Fuel Temperature Sensor
- Fuel Temperature Sensor harness is open or shorted
- Fuel Temperature Sensor circuit poor electrical connection
What does this mean?
When is the code detected?
An excessively high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM.
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P0183 Subaru Description
The fuel tank temperature sensor is used to detect the fuel temperature inside the fuel tank. The sensor modifies a voltage signal from the ECM. The modified signal returns to the ECM as the fuel temperature input. The sensor uses a thermistor which is sensitive to the change in temperature. The electrical resistance of the thermistor decreases as temperature increase

this sensor is in the fuel tank on the fuel pump assembly. If you look under the carpet behind the rear passenger seat, you should see a sort of rectangular access cover. Underneath this cover is the connector to the fuel pump. Make sure that all looks good. Could just be a bad connection. Sometimes when you have the fuel filter replaced a place will unhook this connector. When it's reconnected it might not be fully seated or have a bent pin or something

hi the cylinder misfire codes are usually pretty specific, if you have replaced the above and it still hasnt fixed the problem try replacing the ignitor or the ecu as thats all it can be left causing the problem

I have Subaru legacy 1995. When I start the engine it chokes immediedly down. There is pleanty of fuel..but have the check engine light coming on and off. The sensour was replaced 3 years ago.

Check your fuses. If you can have your car hooked up to a computer and check the code. The code will tell you where to start. Check your spark plugs and wires. Check for broken vaccum hoses or wires.

How do I reset the ''check engine'' light on my 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback wagon?

the check engine light comes on if there is a problem with thecomputer system related to the emmision, when this is is repaired the light on can only be turned off with a monitor, code reader. some of these are quite inexpensive.over the web or at a part store.

1999 Nisian Maxima and need to know what codes mean?

P1320 Ignition Signal
Signal wire from distributor
P0325 Knock Sensor 1 Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 or Single Sensor)
O2 senor ( The one before the cat converter )
P0300 Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
The misfire detection monitor, a software strategy built into the computer, is designed to detect an engine misfire. The computer can also normally identify the specific cylinder in which the misfire has occurred. A misfire is nothing more than a lack of combustion, which can be caused by poor fuel quality or metering, low compression, lack of spark or unmetered air entering the engine. There are other possible, less obvious causes as well, such as uncommanded Exhaust Gas Recirculatin (EGR), flow. When the misfire monitor detects a misfire, it will trigger the check engine light with the specific cylinder number as the last digit in the P030X code. For instance cylinder 1 misfire is P0301, cylinder 2 is P0302 etc. In this case we have either multiple cylinders misfiring, or the computer simply can't determine the specific cylinder, and as such we are left with the P0300 in computer memory.
Possible Causes:
Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors and computer issues
Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality
Evaporative emissions system (EVAP) concerns: fuel vapors leaking into engine
Incorrect fuel pressure

EGR system concerns: leaking EGR valve or restricted ports
Base engine concerns: low compression, valve train problems and timing issues
Ignition system concerns including, but not limited to:
Faulty spark plugs
Faulty coil or related wiring
Ignition module or related wiring issues
Ignition related sensor faults or wiring issues

you need to go to autozone or advance auto parts and do an obd 2 scan to find out the codes on why the engine light is on. The codes will give you a course of action to remedy the problem
