Question about 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee
On a 2000 jeep GC the key will not turn at all , the steering whell is not locked
It is a major problem on all chry-jeep-dodge vech, you can tap the ing with the key in with a screwdriver handle and after a few hits it should turn, if you have it replaced ask for a ing switch without the sidebar, that is what causes the problem, any locksmith can key it back to your key, we cant keep them in stock it is such a problem, hope that gives everyone an idea, Thanks Rob

Worn tumbler. Firmly tap the end of the key with a hammer while you turn it. Don't smack your finger. Once the key turns drive directly to a lock smith and get your tumbler rebuilt.
Worked for me 12 miles out a dirt road in Baja.

All sound great!!!! Also go to the autoparts store and buy some special grafite oil made for key holes. You will see the differents in the way your key will turn. The steering wheel is a major factor, like someone said, turn left to right while trying to turn the key.

This is common on many cars, the pins in the steering column are not aligned, all you have to do is shake the steering wheel in either direction (left to right), this will free up the key so it turns.
