Clarify and describe the noise to help me out here, if it is a tapping- put your ear to the end of a long large scewdriver as you position it downthe valve cover to isolate exactly where the noise is coming from (as a doctor would use a stethescope). Reply back to this post and I will help you further, I'll be on for another hour or so.... MK

You may be coming up on the maintenance interval for a new Belt, but I would imagine that this vehicle has VVT, variable valve timing, and that you may need an adjustment on that as well.
Valve noise is most likely what you are hearing.

Noise in engine sound like it is coming from top engine when raving it up ratteling noise. Engine runs fine

Noise could be lack of oil or wrong grade of gasoline.
Check your oil level.
If the noise is worse when the engine is working harder, like going up a hill, you should try higher grade of fuel, like premium.
Hope this helps.

you need to be more clear,
top right of body, top right of engine, transmission, axle?
what?>
noises are 99% not good, and not safe, do not delay find a competent
hands on ASE mechanic to look at car, even pay for Diagnosis only !
if the engine makes noise you do need to flat out say that.
if the engine makes noise, we can diagnose where and what it is.
there are tricks, to do that, but do not drive any engine that makes noise or invite total engine destruction. can be.
i can be . bad mounted accessories loose or just bad.
loose exh header clamp banging about (or gasket there)
or cam chain getting ready to lunch the engine. i have 2004 v6. can advise better. but you need to be clear.
you can drop belts off to see if noise stops, for 2min dead cold block.
you can pry exh parts to see of noise abates.
you can use a $5 HF stethoscope to listen to all parts, and hear if they are bad. so easy. good luck to you.

Sounds like you might have starved the bearings of oil which in your words , you've got a knackered engine. Probably too late for a pump.

Squeling in top of engine

Im guessing it is a four cylinder. If the noise sounds like a belt in the top of your engine i would say its your timing belt have it changed asap if it breaks it will do a lot of damage to your engine. If that does not sound right could you describe the sound in more detail.

96 Eclipse 2.0 non-turbo Engine has a tapping sound that sounds like its coming from the top of the engine. The sound is loud enough to make it difficult to tell where its coming from. I took the valve...

Most likely cause is a hydralic tappet. Mits are well know for top end noise. Note we are talking about a tapping or clicking sound not a knock. You can try using an engine flush product if the noise is getting bad and then changing your oil. Generally if the oil is not changed regularily eventually the tapping noise gets happens.

THIS IS NORMAL noise for your truck. carbon buildup on pistons causes a cold start knock until warms up. you can run some top engine cleaner thru engine to help. but noise is nothing to affect life of engine

When you say new parts, does that mean cranck bearings and rod bearings?
Is the noise from the top or bottom?
Top noise could be lifters or rocker arms.
Bottom noise could be crank or rod bearings.
Oil pressure?
