There is probably a relay somewhere, but i cannot find it in your manual. It could also be the switch on the transmission. If you can find the relay (check in the engine compartment fuse box first), interrogate the relay socket to see if the switch is working. Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r6022358-relay_check . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me with model, year and engine info.

SOURCE: Reversing lights don't work.

On the side of your transmission will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch that turns on your reverse lights and most likely needs to be replaced

Hyundai tuscon 05. Reverse light doesnt work, bulb fine ,fuse are good and new switch installed. What next?

Does bulb socket have a ground wire, or just uses mounting point as ground? Check for voltage at each part of system. Start with fuse, then switch both in and out of reverse, then bulb.

1996 Camry reverse lights don't work

Check if you are getting power to the reverse light switch. Turn ignition on, disconect terminals to the switch and check for power on the positive terminal using a light bulb or a test meter whatever. If power is there jumpthe 2 terminals and check if light backup light works. If it does replace switch. If ther is no power at switch check wiring from fuse box. If light does not work when switch is jumped check wiring to back.

I have replaced reverse light bulb, however new bulb will not work. I have checked the bulb, the fuses and the wiring, any ideas why can't get it work. Also indicator on dash still present.

The reverse light switch is a mechanical device used to control operation of the vehicle reverse lights. The switch is designed to complete the circuit when reverse gear is selected allowing reverse light operation (manual transmission only).

Reverse light does not work, checked bulbs and fuse and they look good, any suggestions?? 2001 ford focus sedan.. thanks

If the bulb and the fuse are good, (the fuse will affect other circuits as well, not only the reverse lights), your next stop is the reverse light switch. It is located on the gearbox and is a switch with two wires coming from it. Remove the wires and touch them together and see if the reverse light comes on with the ignition on. If they do, you need to replace the switch.

1988 pathfinder no dash lights no revers lights no tail lights no gaiges

If they all stopped working at the same time then it is probably a fuse or possibly 2. Check your fuse panels in the dash and under the hood. The dash lights and gauges should be a fuse labeled instrument cluster or guages, it is probably blown. The other fuse to look for will be the tail light fuse. This is where I would begin.

Back up lights do not work. I checked bulbs and fuses.

Have someone keep the brakes on and put the vehicle in reverse while checking the reverse light bulb socket terminals with a multimeter. Make sure 12 volts is present when in reverse, if not check and replace the back-up light switch.
