It is likely the horn button on your steering wheel is broken inside or the wire is shorting to the steering column. You would have to remove the airbag to fix this problem. If your horn button is on the airbag, you may have to replace the airbag.

    Having same problem...can I remove the horn relay to solve problem with the understanding that my horn will no longer work?

I have 2004 Honda Odessey, horn would not work , checked horn relay and fuze still nothing . What can I do?


Have you checked the ground connection to the horn? Remove the bolt holding the horn to the chassis and try using a piece of sandpaper on the metal support bracket holding the horn to the chassis as well as the chassis itself. Since you have already checked the fuse and the horn relay it is either a poor ground or the horn itself is defective.

The horn on my1996 dodge neon keeps going off by itself.


There are 2 possibilities for this to happen. 1. Inside the steering column there is a faulty circuit. 2. The horn relay has an internal fault. The horn works on a grounding type system, which means that +12V is always available to the circuit and when grounding happens at any point it will activate the relay to send the voltage to the horns. So if your horn is randomly going off then there is a temporary grounding action somewhere.

Hi. We have a 2000 ford focus se, we changed the horn, fuse is good and relay is good.Changed the horn pad,worked for one day,horn sounds when we locked the car with the key fob.but not with the horn...


can be lots of things.
1: fuses. blown (always 1st)

keep in mind some cars, have 2 horn relays
1 for keyless entry sys.
1 for horn button

if the button fails i can be the button is bad, or the wires from it to the relay is bad,
the wiring is simple (steering wheel with air bags are dangerous and complex)
but alldata.com has the drawings. and even how to fix it.
under AIRBAGS (defeat ) 1st
then under HORN
its all there all the time.
i never assume what is wrong, i do the tests.
i check the signal at the correct relay first , the follow the fail path
to its logical conclusion. i dont guess. and for sure i never put
my BODY near any active air bags, ever. nor should you.
if you need to know the exact location of parts. i can look it up.

How to fix horn problem in 1996 toyota corolla


HI,
Try to find out first what is the part that cause the malfunction of the horn.
The three major part of the horn is the relay, harness & horn pad, and horn itself.
Check the relay if it is functioning by replacing it with similar type ( if you have the spare or a similar relay in the relay/fuse box in engine compartment ). Let somebody push the pad horn and if you hear a clicking sound on the relay, it means there is a current that activates the relay( no probs from the horn pad and harness ).
Check the horn, just get a wire and directly connect it to the positive pole of the battery and connect it( wire ) to the positive terminal of the horn, it should activate the horn, if not the problem is the horn and you have to replace it.

there are two powers go to your relay.first is coming from your horn button to activate the relay coil when another from fuse. if both power alright then you need to check wiring and horn itself. regards

There are a few possibilities:

First of all, don't use the factory alarm. If the problem disappears, then the alarm is causing the horn to activate.

If that doesn't help, then verify the horn switch itself. Probably best to have your dealer do this because it's very close to the airbag.

If it's not that, then it may be the dreaded BCM starting to fail. The BCM, or "Body Control Module" is a dealer only component.

Horn is stuck cant find the damn thing or the horne relay sounds like its on the left side of the engine compartment short cut fix was to pull the horn,s 15a fuse in the cab


under the hood in the fuse box all the big square ones are the relays. activate the horn again then remove them one at time to locate the horn relay, when found rotate with known good one. If this doesnt locate the problem the then problem is in the steering wheel.

If your horn isn't working and it isn't the horn itself the next thing to check is the horn wire in the steering wheel under the air bag. The little clip breaks off in time and the horn wire pops out. To repair you can remove the wheel and replace the part but I usually grind in a new notch in the old plastic and re attach the wire and it will work again.
Test the horn itself first. Just remove the connection to the horn and attach 2 wires to a live battery and tough the 2 sides of the contacts on the horn. If it blows the horn is good. If not replace the horn before you go any further.

Hi,

As in most electrical problems, it would be required to do a bit of tracing/diagnosis to determine which is at fault. Most automotive horn system works on the same basic design. A switch in the steering wheel that energizes the horn relay that in turn powers the horn(s). A self activating horn could be caused by:
1: intermittent short in the steering wheel horn button;
2. intermittent shorting out horn relay;
3. intermittent short in the wiring.

Basing on the above possibilities, diagnostic/corrective action would involve:
a. tapping on the steering wheel (not the horn button) to see if jarring it would activate the horn, if yes then the problem is with the horn switch and often cleaning the inside/contact points of the switch should be corrective;
b. tapping the horn relay with the handle of a screwdriver to determine if jarring it would activate the horn, if yes then the problem is with the horn relay which of course would need replacement;
c. the wiring would be a bit more complicated if not time consuming. It would be necessary to wiggle the wires coming from the steering wheel/column to the main harness, to the fuse/relay bank finally to the horn to check at which point the trouble would resurface. Taping any exposed/bare/scraped wire would be corrective. It should be noted that the steering horn switch often would be "to ground" meaning the horn switch is switching the horn relay by providing the negative path, the relay is constantly supplied with B+12.

There are some instances that the horn could also activated by an alarm system.
