same problem ,car turns over but wo'nt start. I cleaned battery terminals,

added water to battery cells[battery less than 2yrs old]. I KNOW THAT ON THE ENGINE i HAVE A LOWCOOLANT SENSOR NO T working.

I have had three jumps startys but car won't crank . the car has 191,000 miles.

so is it possible the fuel pump relay is bad or the fuel pump/gasfilter?

how and where can i open the gas line to see if it is pumping gas?

yes I have the same problem on my 2000 s/w. 3 weeks ago engine turned over but wouldn't start. replaced the battery in the parking lot. still wouldn't start. had towed to shop. they replaced coil assy. drove around for a week. car died while driving it. had towed to shop. in shop now, they said it might be the fuel harness and that I "wouldn't want to go there". still in shop.

I have a Hyundai Elantra 2004 Diesel with a similar problem. Randomly, the car won't start although the starter is turning fine. Usually, the car would start without using the gas pedal, but even with putting the foot down, nothing's happening except the starter turning and turning. Eventually, after 5-10 attempts, the engine would come on as normal and everything will be working again until next time. Any help appreciated.

Check if fuel pump fuse is blown, and fuel filter to be clean or replace it.

Reduce the internal pressure of the fuel lines and hoses by completing the following operations.

After removing the rear seat cushion, disconnect the fuel pump harness.

Start the engine. Allow it to stop by itself, then turn the ignition switch OFF.

Disconnect the battery negative (-) terminal.

Connect the fuel pump harness connector.

Remove the eye bolts while holding the fuel filter nuts securely.
Cover the fuel filter with a shop towel to avoid residual gasoline from splashing.

Remove the fuel filter mounting bolts, then remove the fuel filter from the fuel filter clamp.

After replacing the fuel filter, check for fuel leaks.

    Turn the ignition switch OFF.

Apply battery voltage to the fuel pump drive connector to check that the pump operates.
The fuel pump is an in-tank type and its operation is hard to hear without removing the fuel tank cap.

Pinch the hose to check that fuel pressure is felt.

Car would start just before starter change. now turns over really good but won't start. fuel pump is kicking on. Has fire with starter fluid spray.

Some problem still with fuel delivery. I suggest you have the fuel pressure checked, and if it is at specification- would be high with multi port injection, around 40 or 50 psi- then check your injector circuit.
Engine does not need to be running to check fuel pressure. Hook up gauge, turn key to on, and read the pressure.

My 1991 mercury tracer will wind up when i try to start it but won't turn over, it's getting fuel but won't start unless i spray in starting fluid where the air filter hose goes in, plus won't run when...

Sounds like you have a weak fuel pump or a bad fuel pump relay which is a cheap test before you change the pump. You may be able to access the fuel pump through the floor under the rear seat so look at that first before you pull the fuel tank out of your car.

Fuel filter

Remove new filter, soak it in clean fuel and re-install. Kinda like priming the pump also could be bad f/p relay..Do you hear noise from pump when you turn the key to on position?

Just cranks over but does not start

remove air filter and while turning it over try to spray alittle I mean alittle starting fluid in the intake if it starts then it is the fuel filter which is cheap or the fuel pump check all fuses before buying a new fuel pump.

Won't start. turning, but won't fire.

If you think its fuel, spray some starter fluid inthe throttle body. If it fires up, you have a fuel problem, otherwise, check your spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Also, check your fuses.
