Difficult to diagnose ,would need to put a pressure tester on radiator and see what happens as white smoke is water vapour, unless its diesel as people often describe white smoke buts its a light grey which is fuel ,although the question does say TDI so am i to assume its a diesel turbo injection ,if it is then to think some more i would need to know if it has an injector pump or if its common rail .because you can have two completely different answers

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is a grey smoke and it is a injector pump tipe engine. It also does not start easy (even after fitting new glowplugs). Next is to do the injectors or what do you think?

right start engine then when its running put a finger on each injector in turn and feel for the crack in the pipe as it fires ,see what you think of how they feel as this will give you some idea if one is missing ,then get back to me and go from their as her indoors wants to go to the sunday market and is moaning at me sorry for the rushed answer

Why sometime pleinty white smoke came out of exaust

White Smoke...
1. Typically normal condensation in the exhaust system converting to steam once engine is running and producing heat creates white smoke. Typically this lasts only a short period of time until condensation water in the exhaust system is gone.

2. If there is a problem, persistent white exhaust could be an indication of a water leak into the cylinders (e.g. cracked head or leaking head gasket. The good news is, this second case will normally will occur with other problems (e.g. consistent rough idle, or rough engine vibration at specific RPMs). If this is suspect, keep an eye on the oil with the dip stick and during next oil change (If any of the oil appears WHITE, there is a problem.). If this is a suspect problem, a test for the DIY'r mechanic would be to remove all the spark plugs, have another person turn the engine over, and watch for water mist to spray out of one or more cylinders.

Because you said sometimes, this sounds like normal condition.

Just replace Turbo in 2001 Jetta TDI. Car has

if the old turbo blew, chances are you have swarf in the top of the cylinders and it has burnt the valve seats.white smoke is normally unburnt fuel/water mix.also if the car has been standing it could be just condensation it the exhaust pipes which will dissipate when car is left to run until very hot or thrashed for about 10 mins.hope its the latter.....

Car smoke white when idle and nothing when driving

Engine also smokes when car driving if turbocharger still faulty. Did you change the engine timing belt (the timing belt kit) meantime? What about engine oil consumption? When engine glow plugs (one or more) burnt then engine exhausts white smoke at idling. Also white smoke at engine idling when water is still present in diesel fuel.

2001 Jetta Tdi runs rough

Hi Whitneyford
Your priblem sounds more like the glow plug timer relay than the exhaust. White smoke after start up is a sign of diesel entering the exhaust before it has burned completly. This is as a result of the glow plugs switching off too early, which is usually caused by one or more faulty glow plugs or a faulty timer. With engine COLD, IGNITION ON... Check voltage with all 4 plugs connected. You should have a reading of 10--12 volts
If there is no power, check in-line fuse on loom coming to plugs.
If power is present, check for How Long. If only for a few seconds, the problem is with the timer. This unit (the larger of the relays and usually black in colour) is fitted on the fuse board, and there are a few different types. They come in 7 pin..8 pin..and even 9 pin units.
The glow plug light is often NOT accurate (even with a new timer unit fitted) as to the time of heating, and you will almost certainly find that power will flow to the plugs for quiet some time after the light goes out. This is not unusuall with The Jetta Tdi.
Good luck.
I hope this helps you sort out this problem

Have you changed your fast idle valve or air idel control valve I would change the air idle valve because it is the one with an electric sensor.

Car died rotton egg smell

Not sure if engine coolant smells like rotten egs when it burns inside the cylinders , but it sounds like you may have blown a head gasket. Coolant and/or oil could be getting inside combustion chamber. Another possibility is that the catyletic converter might have broken up and colapsed onto the screen where it goes into the exhaust. Might give the rotten egg smell and block the exhaust enough to cause backpressure sufficient to cause the engine to run poorly too.
Try putting your palm over the exhaust pipe , if the exhaust is coming out in pulses (pop ,pop, pop) thats normal , if it is just slowly flowing out with no noticable pulses , I would check into the cat converter problem.

When truck gets warm it will not run over 45 mph

Puffing white smoke is a sign of a blown head gasket. Coolant is getting into the cylinders.

Large amount of white smoke from exhaust and loss of water from the system. No visible leaks.

if it is there is water getting into the head
caused by blown head gasket
if not just get back to me and ill find the other soulution
