It is really dirty, awkward, and the retaining strap bolts will be rusted a little or badly and have to be drilled or cut off. Not a nice job, until it is out., then it is interesting.

How do I change the fuel pump in the engine on a 1990 Chevy Caprice Classic wagon

The fuel pump is in the fuel tank. You must drop the tank to access the pump. Make sure you drain as much fuel as possible before you drop it completely, it will be much easier to handle.

Check your fuel filter, if that is not the problem you also have a fuel pickup screen on the fuel line in the tank that may be plugging.

Fuel Filter 1991 Caprice wagon (305 cu.i)

You will find the filter somewhere in the fuel line to find it either trace the largest line exiting the tank or back from the fuel rail. After changing fuel filter, You will not have a problem with air...pump will compensate for that...If you have a schrade valve on the fuel rail, you can attach an old A/C gauge hose to it and crank it over (with end of hose in a suitable container, to avoid spraying fuel all over the engine) but this is generally unnecessary.

Fuse fule pump 93 caprice wagon

It's in the tank. You'll have to drop the tank. Use a jack to lower it. Becareful you may have to siphon off some gas if it is too will splash fuel on yourself...(not that I've ever done that).

Also do not let tank run low because fuel in tank keeps in tank pump cool. This is why the pump is in the tank.
