Remove transmission. seal is behind drive plate (what in manual trans vehicles is called a flywheel. You really need a $25 service manual when you do this kind of repair yourself...most likely a 2 piece seal in that truck...depends on motor

Oil leak seem to come from starter. What can it be - main bearing oil seal?

Oil leaking around a starter is usually one of three possible things.
If it is motor oil, then suspect the rear main seal.
It it is auto trans fluid, it could be from the transmission front seal or the torque converter
If you have a manual transmission, it could be clutch fluid leaking from the slave cylinder, or a leaky front seal from the transmission.

GM never uses exhaust manifold gaskets, it is a machined fit. The rear main may be two piece in this year, it depends on what engine the car has, you never say, if so you must remove the oil pan. Also if it is a one piece you need the installation tool to install the seal, if you don't do it right it will likely leak even worse.

I have 1994 bluebird nissan altima with oil leak in transmission side. What posssible causes of it?

The Rear Main Seal is the main area for an Oil Leak on the Transmission Side. You will need to drop the transmission to remove the old rear main seal and install the new one.

Is the rear main seal on a 1999 gmc yukon a 1 piece or 2 piece seal. Leaking oil real bad from back of motor.

its a one piece. should be the metal one with the rubber inside seal. of corse you gatta pull the tranny but its a good time to change fluids and maybe slap a new torque converter in. changing the rear main is pretty easy after the tranny is out.

My Chevy 2002 Tahoe is leaking oil. They told me

this truck is equipped with an aluminum oil pan you could have 1 or several things going on... a stripped drain plug which is causing it to leak or it may be a leaking front seal or a rear main seal. If it is a front seal it is not to labor intensive. But if it is a rear main seal leaking it will require the transmission to be removed since the seal is a 1 piece rear main

Oil leak out the rear main seal on a 2000 ford explorer

First, the easiest way IS to remove the transmission, it is a one piece seal, if it were a 2 piece, you would need to remove the oil pan and Rear Main Bearing Cap which in my opinion is alot tougher. When installing the new seal, make sure the the end of the crankshaft is clean of debris, lube the seal before sliding it over the end of the crankshaft to ease installation and some like to apply a thin coat of high temp sealant to the outside surface of the new seal to ensure no leakage. When reinstalling the flywheel/flex plate, proper torque is key because you dont want it working loose and having to remove the transmission again.

Main seal

First is it a front seal ,or rear main seal,(front seal, being were you see the pulleys and fan belts,,you have to look at the bottom pulley, follow the shaft to the motor, where the shaft goes into the motor is the front seal, the pulley and everthing behind it has to come out then you pull out the seal, auto zone actually has free tool rental that you can pull the seal, and a tool to put it back in,if a rear main seal its where the shaft from the transmission meets the back of the motor, youll have to pull the trannsmission back, check where you see the oil leek from, the front seal you can do if mechanically inclined, but if its the rear you should take to a mechanic,if this helps please give me a fix ya vote
