Question about Pontiac Torrent

Open Question

I just had my 2008 Torrent into be checked, because the Engine Hot and AC off light came on again. But, when the mechanic checked the engine it was not hot. Also, the Oil guage shows zero or on the down position. What's going on?

SOURCE: Ford Ranger heat guage reads next to hot

I have a Ford Ranger as well, mine is a 2004, and yes I would be concerned if the gauge read next to the hot mark. I assume this just started happening, or you maybe just bought the truck?

Ford uses two coolants, one is called "gold" and is a gold color. This was used in 2004 and up engines and was reported to last longer than the "green" coolant.

Are there any "check engine" lights on? If so, go to a big box autoparts store and ask them to poll the codes. There may be an underlying reason that has nothing to do with the cooling system (see below)

Here's the possible causes:

  1. The thermostat has been replaced with one having a higher temperature rating than the recommended range.
  2. The thermostat has become defective (they wear out with age and miles) and needs replaced.
  3. The coolant is low in the engine (is the reservoir empty?).
  4. The coolant/water mix is too thin (not enough coolant) - this is unlikely as a root cause, unless the ambient air temperature outside the truck is high (above 80 degrees).
  5. The engine computer (ECM) is faulty and is running the engine at the incorrect air/fuel ratio.
  6. The coolant system has blocked passages caused by previous engine work where the mechanic failed to assure gaskets or permatex did not restrict water passages upon re-assembly.
  7. The electric fan is not working - it is not drawing air through the radiator. When the engine is hot the fan should be ON!!! If it isn't then you need to replace the fan or check the power to the fan.
  8. The water temp sensor is bad. It doesn't happen often, I would suspect this last.
  9. The air flow into the engine is restricted - really really dirty air cleaner filter. You would notice other signs like sluggish throttle response and possibly the engine dying at idle.
Hope this helps, if it did, would you please take a minute to rate my solution?

Thanks for using FixYa!

SOURCE: 1994 Chevy Silverado temperature guage shows hot

Flushing the radiator, replacing the radiator cap, adding new coolant, replacing the sensors and a new thermostat solved the problem. Probably didn't need to do all of these things - but since we just purchased the truck, and given the fact that is probably hadn't been done in a while, we chose to do all of these things (which really didn't cost a whole lot), it's running like a charm now.

SOURCE: air conditioning blows out hot air

there is problem that I have seen many times with dodges , and I know because I personally own one , the blend door inside of the A/C case ,broke ,bloking the cool air flowing in to the car and allowing just the hat air going though...I have seen that happen before in many other dodges...not 100% sure , but if you mechanic says that the pressure ais OK so the problem have to be inside the A/C case

2008 impala says engine hot ac off I recharged the ac correctly and it still says engine hot blah blah blah but ac only works every once in awhile

Why are you messing with the AC? It's telling you the engine is overheating and that's why it shut the AC down.

Check engine light

You would need to have the computer scanned, which most auto parts stores will do for free.
Then after the problem that turned on the warning light is fixed, the scan tool will clear the code or codes and the light should stay off.

The "engine hot/ac turned off light" came on and

after replacing a thermostat you need to wait till the thermostat opens and re add more coolant till its full. if the lite stays on the sensor is most likely bad

I waited a little too long to get the oil changed after the oil change light came on, the check engine light also came on; the mechanic cleared the oil change light, but how do I clear the check engine...

It will have to be cleared with a code reader, but the code needs to be read to see why,it is on,there is another reason for it to come on,not the past due oil change,If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.

Own a 2008 pontiac torrent gxp ''check gas cap'' message appears and service engine soon light illuminates ive already replaced gas cap but service engine soon light is still on. does anyone know how to...

The system is set up by GM to have the cleared with a codes cleared by a OBIII hand held device which can be purchased at many auto parts stores. Auto Zone can clear it for you for free if you ask them to do so. If the code does come back you may want to purchase a factory fuel cap instead
