SOURCE: gear shifter lock and car wont start

Try removing the trim around the selector and see what is jamming it - there's usually a brake interlock that keeps the car in Park until the brake pedal is held down (this activates a switch on the brake pedal arm, which disengages the lock). The way I see it, you either have a faulty brake pedal switch, or the lock itself is jammed. Look in there and see if it's something that shouldn't be there - if the shifter is being held in place by a device that is part of the car, chances are the brake pedal interlock switch failed. If you have a pretzel or something in there, well, there's your solution:)

SOURCE: noise ... raddle

When the engine is cold, go under the car and try to shake the exhaust system at the approximate spot you hear the rattle coming from. It is most likely a heat shield for the exhaust, or a broken (rusted through) hanger for the exhaust making the noise you describe. You can probably correct it with a wire or couple of screws to secure the shield, or replace a hanger.

Either the pin that connects rod to tranny is broken off, or there is internal transmission problems.

SOURCE: sitting in driveway parking brake on popped clutch

Hopefully it's just the clutch, you may have snapped a shaft too. If the engine was just idling, I can't imagine it did too much damage, even with those miles.

Gear shifter wont engage transmission and making a clicking noise

if you press the shifter and it moves ,then at transmission side, something is loose or came apart,at gear selector side of transmission, some kind of E clip. or C clip

but if the shifter from inside the car not moving at all,

there is switch under brake pedal that is bad and need to be changed look at brake pedal and follow it up toward fire wall from inside the car where at that point upper part of pedal connected to master cylinder

How do i change my shift cable on my pt cruiser

I just had the same experience just now. What I did first was remove the center console. There are 2 screws under the front cup holder and 4 in the center storage compartment. Make sure you disconnect your rear power window switch or you will pull it out. At the bottom of the shifter is a pin and the end of the cable has a plastic piece with a hole in it that connects to the pin. The plastic piece popped off. I put it back on and it worked. It was still real tight, but I am at work and at least I can get home. ( I was stuck in reverse!)

When you press on the shifter you are putting pressure on a bearing. That is most likely the problem. It is about as cheap to rebuild it as to find a used one. Not to many around. If you rebuild it, get the bearings, syncronizer and any gear that has teeth missing.

Sure.
If I remember right, there is a long pipe that attaches to the transaxle shifter, and goes up to underneath the stick.
There is a nylon bushing that holds it in place on the stick end. It wears thin and falls out, allowing this long pipe to bang around.
Mark the edge of the shifter plate first, then unbolt the 2 13mm bolts, to remove the shifter and the lock out plate underneath it.
Remember the orientation of the lockout plate, or keep it with the shift plate, so that you don't try to reinstall it upside down later.
Then pull out the stick.
Notice the prong and how it fits into the groove of the cup on the end of the long pipe, for reinstallation.

Then grab the long pipe and move it around.
See how it hits the edge of a hole in a metal support, instead of being held tightly by a plastic bushing.
If I remember right, the new bushing has a split on one side so that you can open it and put it around the pipe, and then you slide it back until it snaps into the hole.
Grease it well.
Put the shift plate back where is was, or else you might have trouble shifting into all the gears.

Trany not moving in first gear

That sounds like a problem with the shifter linkage. Have someone sit in the car and shift the car, with the engine off, from first to neutral and back, Go under the hood, and see if the linkage is moving with the shifter.

It sounds like the hyd. clutch is not working. If the clutch won't release then you can't get the transmission in a gear while it is running, without that grinding noise.
