On your 05 Silverado you have an electronic speedometer and this type of failure is common on the 03-06 Silverado instrument clusters. It's caused by failing stepper motors on the cluster's circuit board and it can be repaired. Check out this page for more about how to get it fixed - Silverado instrument cluster repair

My speedometer doesnt work

Without key in ignition, depress and hold down the trip reset button by the speedometer until a code appears. Release button and the gauge cluster will go through a self diagnosis ( needles will move around and dash lights will blink). When needle returns to zero and lights go off, diagnosis will be completed and speedometer will be reset. Very easy fix.

I have a 1997 dodge grand caravan and the speedometer is stuck on 120 mph! I was traveling and the alternater went, so I got a new one and a new battery. The car is running fine, but the speedometer and...

you may have to take a magnet and put it over the speedometer needle and move the needle back to zero, this some times happens when a battery is connected as the voltage surge causes the needle to bounce some times to far and its not able to return to zero.you may need to have the system checked for proper charging, the voltage could be borderline causing the light to come on.you can try disconnecting the battery as it may reset the light.

2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS, Speedometer dial

The motor behind the gauge is wearing out, very common on silverado instrument clusters for this to happen.

I can rebuild the gauge so it doesn't happen again, check my site out here www.DrSpeedometer.com

Speedometer is not working-- last night on the highway it keep increasing in speed until it went all the way to 120. when you start the truck it will decrease and if you continue turning on and off it...

If this is a mechanical speedometer, the return spring that pulls the needle to zero may be broken--fix is to replace the speedometer as they are sealed like a can. Check the wrecking yards for a used replacement. Hope this helps!

Speedometer wont go back to ZERO, what should i try to fix?

If this is a mechanical speedometer, it may have a broken return spring, or debris in the mechanism. Best bet is to find one in a wrecking yard and replace it.
