Wont shift out of park

probably the brake pedal switch (mounted on the brake pedal lever) starting to fail. it releases the shift lever and controls the brake lights coming on. you will need to replace this.

for now, turn the key in the ignition to the lock position (counter clockwise,) then to the off position (clock wise). In this position the brake shift interlock is disabled and you can move the shifter to neutral. these instructions are also in the owners manual in the driving section. the switch should be changed because eventually you won't have brake lights.

Turn signals wont work

An easy way to check the circuit for turn signals is to have somebody watch at the back then with the key on (you could have the motor running) put on the brakes. Do you have a brake light on both sides? If you do then manually go to the turn signal on then off (with the brake lights on). In other words you move the turn signal on the steering column to the on position then the off position. The person watching should see the tail lights change states (similar to a turn signal but slower) If they see the lights change then most likely your flasher unit is burned out and needs replaced. If there is no brake lights then the brake light fuse may be burned out. You can get instructions on flasher unit placement in the vehicle by the parts locator thru the autozone web site. Usually the flasher unit ( a small round device about 1 to 1 1/2 inches long) is right under the dash near or on the steering column

PT Cruiser Brake Light

The bulb in the rear light has burned out and to replace it follow these instructions: 1) go to your owner's manual to find out the part number. You can find and purchase the replacement bulb at Target, any auto parts store and even at Walmart for under $4.00; 2) pop open the trunk door; 3) get a phillips screw driver and unscrew the 2 screws holding the rear brake light fixture to your car body; 4) as soon as you turn over the fixture you'll see where to pull out the burned out bulb and replace it with the new one(s). Good luck!
