Question about Acura Legend

Open Question

My clutch pedal goes straight to the ground and stays their i pop it back up and stays their. i tried bleeding but that didn't help. unless i was doing it on the wrong bleeder valve. its a 1991 acura legen 3.2 L

Hi Robert!

When bleeding the fronts and the pedal does not go down all the way, stand on the pedal HARD and see if it won't go down then...

The proper sequence is to bleed fronts FIRST... if you had done this, you probably could have avoided this problem... but no worry, it is just a nuisance!

If you still have a problem after trying this, you might have a master cylinder problem... the seals to the fronts might be leaking, not able to build pressure...

SOURCE: Bleeding clutch slave cylinder

i think youre doing the right thing. they are very stubborn to bleed because the hyd. line goes up high across back of engine before droppiing back down to slave cyl., trapping air. could try to gravity bleed by opening bleeder at slave, cap off of master cyl, full with fluid then it may start to come out after a bit. then try your process again. or can try to bleed at connections further up the line, working your way back to bleeder. hope this helps. be patient.

did you try to take line off at slave cyl. and see if fluid comes from resavor? also take bleeder out and see if holes are pluged up in bleeder. if all this chks. out ok than its got to be slave cyl. they have been known to go bad. just that quick too.

SOURCE: we are not getting pedal on the clutch after bleeding the slave

Here is your issue, I have an '03 with the same tranny, the problem is most likely the slave cylinder which requires a pull of the transmission the part is 50 bucks and I did this in about 10 hours on my back, by myself and just a little swearing. I replaced the whole thing the pressure plate, clutch disk and slave cylinder as I was not going to do this again.
The other side of the issue is the master cylinder in which I find if the Slave is bad the master is also bad, hence the pedal dropping to the floor.
The bleed is simple it is a gravity bleed. Loosen the bleeder and let it run. then after you verify there si no air you can pump up the master and it should work fine.
this is a poorly designed system as the slave cylinder on the mitsubishi tranny is inside the bell housing.. good Luck

The Dodge Stealth has a hydraulic clutch. You may need more fluid (use brake fluid), beside the brake master cylinder on the drivers side near the fire wall is the clutch reservoir. You will have to "pump" your clutch several times. Push all the way to the floor and release. This will take several pumps, you might even pump while you are at stop lights, etc. Before you replace ANYTHING try this.

New clutch installed. No pedal, stays on floor unless I bring it back up with my hand. No resistance.


`Did it bleed, did fluid come out in a steady stream? Isn't there a spring to bring the pedal off the floor?
Check the linkage of the pedal to rod to the clutch master cylinder, make sure that is all together. Any chance the master has an internal leak and won't build hydraulic pressure down at the slave? If you get it bled, then watch the slave operation while someone works the clutch pedal. The piston on the slave should extend and push the clutch fork enough to disengage the clutch.

Hi. Tried bleeding my van clutch yesterday as it was slipping abit, but now there is no pressure on the pedal at all and goes straight to floor


the clipped joint is probably allowing air back into the system
Fix the bleed nipple or get a new slave cylinder and hose the bleed it again.

How to bleed a clutch


Get a friend to help. Press clutch down to floor and hold, have your friend loosen the line at the slave cylinder, or clutch actuator under the car enough that fluid squirts out. Have him tighten the line back up. Release the clutch and press back to the floor again. Have your friend repeat the process as before. (loosen to let fluid squirt out, then tighten back up) Release the pedal. Repeat this process untill there are no air pockets left in the line. NOTE: if your clutch pedal fails to return to the top, simply pop it back up with your hand/foot, wait a few seconds, then depress to floor again for another bleeding.

Where the heck is the reservoir for the clutch master cylinder on my 84 AMC Eagle.


its made on clutch master cylinder under hood straight thru from clutch pedal fill it under hood take small wrench 5/16 I think get under vehicle find slave cylinder bleed valve you will need wrench a piece of vacuum hose and a cup put wrench on bleed valve then put vacuum hose on next the other end goes in cup of brake fluid to prevent air sucking back it can bubble air out but can only suck brake fluid back have helper pump clutch pedal hold pedal bleed repump rebleed till clutch gets right its harder to bleed than brakes pump fast hold pedal down pump clutch fast hold down bleed real pain in *ss good luck

After changing transmission and clutch in 91 Wrangler, clutch goes to floor. Tried bleeding line but didn't work.


The clutch should go to the floor =) But if it's not disengaging the clutch disk, there's definitely a problem between the pedal and the clutch disk. I'm guessing you have a hydraulic clutch?

It has air bubbles on the piping, fill the deposit with brake solution, and push and pull the clutch pedal with your hand it doesn't matter if it goes straight to the floor if that happens pull it with your hand, repeat that as if you are bleeding it up, then disconnect the piping beneath the car, the air bubbles will be forced out, then reconnect the piping and repeat the procedure, push and pull the clutch pedal like a 100 times, then disconnect the piping and reconnect. The clutch pedal should be able to go back when there is no air on the piping. If that doesn't work, replace your clutch pump

Clutch pedal has no pressure and goes straight to the floor when pressed. clutch disk is in good condition. parked the car the night before was working perfect. next morning no pressure and out of fluid....


Pump the clutch pedal and then check for leaks again, including under the dash where the rod from the pedal goes into the clutch master cylinder. Once you find the leak, replace what's leaking and bleed the system to restore the pressure (bleeds from the slave unit, just like bleeding brakes)

Help, the clutch will not bleed on my 2002 Laguna 1.9dci it was fine until a new clutch was fitted, so I dont think it's the regular cylinder problem, no matter what I try, no fluid is coming through...


You have to pre bleed the master cylinder or it will never work. Parts stores sell a tubing kit for this job. essentailly a hose goes from the output to the fluid reservior. Your clutch pedal sounds like it has spring assist. so you need to manually pull it back... It may be easier to pull the cylinder and bench bleed....

anyways, do not let fuid run low while bleeding the rest of the system.

could just be a leak - might check the bleed valve and along the hoses between the reservoir and the trans for points of leaking and fix as needed as the pedal will stay down to prevent pulling in air when bleeding the clutch [rather handy when bleeding without assistance]

Clutch pedal stays down


Still have air in system.. Try this: Pull pedal up,fill reservoir to the top, open bleed nipple on slave cyl all the way,leave for a while to "gravity feed" keeping the reservoir full,& an eye on the nipple, until all bubbles are expelled and clean brakefluid drips out(could take a few minutes). Close the nipple, and bleed system as usual....
