If you changed the belt, that means that you have been having problems with your altenator. You battery is probably dead.

2002 chevrolet pick up v6 excessive noise from belts replaced idler and tensioner ,no help power steering works fine ,altenator charging, a/c ok water pump ok rotated altenator, by hand when changing...

I would suspect the altenator, A/C pulley, or the belt. when you checked the altenator and a/c they have to turn smoothly with no play or roughness. If these checked out fine then I would check the belt, they do stretch.

How do i disconnect alternator in 1996 lincoln towncar. key wont work

disconnect the positive cable from battery 1st then on back of altenator there will be a plug in with a plastic lock tab holding it in. with a straight screw driver pry back gently on the locking tab and pull the plug out. then there will be a nut to remove also. you may have to slide the rubber cover thats over it to see it. once exposed, you'll see it,most likely a 10 mm nut. remove it and the altenator is unplugged. removal of altenator from engine isn't that hard either. with a ratchet insert the ratchet into the belt tensioner and rotate it counter clockwise and the belt will loosen, slide belt off of the altenator, then remove the two bolts that hold it in place. installation is the reverse of removal. if you need further assistance please ask and we'll be glad to help you!!thank you for choosing!!

Change alternator

It's easy...
Disconnect the battery
Remove the supentine belt from the altenator pully, you can use a 3/8" drive breaker bar on the belt tensioner, just insert into the square slot on the tensioner and rotate it clockwise.
Remove the power wire and the harness
Remove the mounting bolts 1 under and 2 on the sides.

Just reverse the process to install the new altenator.
Make sure the supentine belt is in the proper position.
Make sure the battery is charged before starting, a drained battery can damage the FETs on the new altenator.

Battery light came on,and stirring became hard toturn.sterring

battery light will come on if there is a prob with your altenator or your battery...

firstly check if you still have a fanbelt, it may have come off and this will cause both of these problems and eventualy cause your car to overheat aswell

if there is a problem with the altenator seizing etc it may effect your power steering pump causeing steering to be hard to turn, observe if there is anything abnormal about the drive belt opperation (noise, vibration, spinning slowly, or appears buckled etc...) if so then you will need to remove the belt and check all the pulleys (prob start with the altenator)

Change moter alt belt keeps breaking

Hi the altenator belt? if it keeps snapping then your altenator is rather starting to seize up or its not fitted correctly, normally if its squeking its to loose.

Spin the altenator by hand and see what it sounds like, if its hard to turn or noisey that the fault.

hope this helps.

Problem with Altenator belts Etude

the problem is not the altenator. you should have a idler pully and a self adjusting idler tensioner. if thes e go bad the bearings tend to seize up and break belts i would check these first chance you get the tensioner should be spring like and be hard to move back and forth the pulley part of it should spin freely with out makeing a noise. please rate this

It's actually super easy.
All you need is your year and make alternator belt and a wrench.
Take off the existing altenator, take off the old belt.
Once the altenator is off you'll be able to look further down below where the altenator was. You'll see a metal wheel that's a little bigger than the one on the altenator. This is where the new belt needs to wrap around.
I found it alot easier to wrap the belts around the two wheels before putting the altenator back on the engine.
Make sure that all bolts and seals are sound. (that's the last thing you need falling off in the middle of nowhere!)
Hope it helped!
