I can't get heat....replaced thermostat, and that didn't help.... I can change from "panel, floor, defrost, etc", but it still blows cool air.

My 2000 jimmy has heat problems. the heat goes from cold to hot to warm to cold etc. what could the problem be?

If the temp gauge is now more stable, the problem is in your heater system, not the engine cooling system.

No heat or defrost in my 2000 mercury sable

If you are referring to the air won't blow through the defrost vents or on the floor, you may have a stuck or broken blend door actuator. This part diverts air through the different settings: defrost, vent, floor etc. If you aren't getting warm or hot air regardless of the settings, you may either be low on coolant or have a bad thermostat.

I can turn the ac off and turn the heat on in my 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. How do I control the thermostat? I have tried putting on auto,vent,floor/defrost,defrost, and turned the temp up to 90 and it...

It sounds like thermostat (in coolant system) needs to be replaced. They only control you have for temps are the dials on dash, but if coolant thermostat is sticking you're limited to what it outputs. Replace coolant thermostat and you should be "good to go"

Would the heater control valve malfunctioning make the engine overheat blowing hot air out the heater one moment, then not blowing the hot air, temp gage spikes 225 plus. The motor takes awhile to heat up...

Heater control valve malfunction will not cause engine to overheat unless coolant is leaking externally...Overheating going down the road can be the result of a few different things...Partly clogged radiator...Insufficient air flow due to possible fan problem...External coolant leak...Make sure fans are operting properly and have cooling system pressure tested for leaks...Gaining and losing heat on the inside of the vehicle usually means system is low on coolant but you must find out where coolant is going

95 Regal blows hot air out the defrost only- no where else!

You have a vacuum problem the car uses the vacuum from the engine to switch the door that makes the air go out the different levels defrost panel and floor it also uses vacuum to move the door which moves to make it pull air through the heating core and the cooling a-coil. Have you messed around on the back of the engine (changing spark plugs, or other work up against the firewall) around the time it stopped changing heat/cooling functions? If so you probably disconnected a vacuum hose if not you may just have a hose that is in need of repair. Also the switch panel that houses the controls can go bad it is an easy fix you can change the whole peice and most of the time it has one big plug in that does it all sometimes it has a plug in for each control fan temp and where the air is discharged

Defrost blows cold air

Sounds like you have a plenum door that is not opening when you go into defrost mode. You will have to check all your vacuum hoses and switching valves under the dash to see which one is not working. Hope this helps.

Just got heater core replaced and now have no heat from heater or defrost. Fans work, just don't blow anything beyond "cool". The heat in my car is coming and going. I want to know how to fix...

It sounds like when they replaced your heater core, that they didn't properly hook up the blend door contros at the control panel. I would take it back to the repair shop that did the work and have them go back over things again just to make sure.
