Question about GMC Savanna

1 Answer

Hi... I have a 2004 GMC with original Battery which I kbow I need to change. Anyway, I only use it for long trips so battery is usually not a problem. But since it sits for long periods, battery wears down. I start it using a power pack. Last week I hooked up pack and at first I got a connection..I can tell as there is a light inside the engine compartment. I had to disconnect and reconnect later as I needed someone else to start it and no one was available at the time. Anyway, this time I could not get a connection...almost as if a fuse was blown. Where do I start looking???? thanks

  • Paul Smith Oct 01, 2010 is not an issue with dirty cables. I suspect a problem with fuses. Which is the one fuse most likely to prevent electrical going through the system? Would the battery just shut down...I know its weak but the power pack should still start it...right???

ok...I give in. Will try to get a new battery tonight or tomorrow. Stay tuned...forgive me if I am a little doubtful!

Well...what do you know....I replaced the battery and it started just fine. Dont think I have ever seen a situation where the battery just shut down. I would expect it to be weak...but not die!
    Thanks for your help!!!

Clean the battery cables and replace the battery, that should cure the problem.

I have 35 years of repair experience (25 years as a factory certified Master tech in electrical system repair and diagnosis) and to diagnose this type of problem over a computer keyboard is very tuff, so u must at least give me a chance here, long ago i learned the hard way to check the easy stuff 1st, then move on.

Incomplete monitors :catalyst 2004 envoy emmisions fail ?

After the MIL is turned off or the battery was disconnected for some time, all monitors are set to incomplete. However with several short trips with engine getting at least to hot enough for thermostat to open, (I believe 8 is the magic number of trips) most monitors are set, you may be able to pass the test with only one incomplete only.

Audi A3 2.0 fsi 2004 will not start

Sounds like you have a weak battery. It doesn't take much power to make all the lights work but you need a lot of current to start the engine. You can test the battery by looking at voltage across the terminals when you try to start the car, if it's less than 12 volts your battery needs to be replaced. If your battery is more than 5 years old it should be replaced anyway. Good luck, let us know how it goes.

I resently did work on my 97 gmc jimmy and took out the battery. when in got done and put the battery back nothing worked. no lights no radio no nothing. now my battery was charged and theres power going...

It's a cable issue. What type of work did you do? Anyway there are two cables coming from positive terminal, one straight to battery one to pdc (fuse block) gm has poor set up there clean retighten not too tight. Or during your work a ground was left loose or undone. Security not the problem. Turn on headlights wiggle either cable till they flicker thats where problem lies.

2003 GMC Envoy - Idles rough when stopped (in gear), already changed engine mounts and cleaned throttle plate. There is a smell of anti-freeze coolant and the Check Engine Soon light comes on and the...

Engine temp too low is usually the thermostat, was this replaced too? If not, replace it. Might check out the fan clutch and the engine coolant temperature sensor.

As far as the vibration, have you taken a look at your tranny mounts? Usually vibrating in gear while stopped is the engine mounts, but I've seen the tranny mounts cause this too.

Also, check out the upstream 02 sensor and make sure it's operating correctly. Have you changed your fuel filter?

Also, just making sure.....You did have the battery disconnected while cleaning the throttle body right? If not, just unhook it again for a minimum of 30 minutes. After that drive around for 20 minutes to reset the computer.

While several mechanics couldn't find anything by using their computers, some of these will not throw codes if they are just about ready to fail.

Anyway, some things to double check here. Hope at least some of this helps, because it sounds like you're doing the right things.

I am going to change the battery in 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Will the electronic setting currently on the car memory remain?

Hi, im afraid not as soon as you take the battery off the vehicle you will lose all of this, also when you refit the battery you will be asked for the security code for the stereo and if you dont have it then thats means a trip to the main dealers to get the code from them.

you can buy a device that plugs into the cigarette lighter and this allows you to take the battery off without losing all this info as it gives the car enough power to keep thing as they are, but you would need to shop around to do this.

isnt their anyway you can charge the battery whilst its still on the vehicle, it will charge with no problems still connected and it wont do any harm as long as you get the terminals the right way round.

let me know if you need further assistance ok

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

Changing time on BMW 320 D SE Touer

Procedures for changing the clock vary from model to model. Usually there is some button on the trip computer that you hold down until the display blinks.
Why not just look in the owners manual?

A battery life goes by age. How old is your vehicle? Usually 3 years is the norm for batteries and tires.
