Question about 2004 Mitsubishi Outlander

1 Answer

I'm experiencing a hesitation or jumping during acceleration between 35 and 45 mph on my 2004 outlander it has 129000 miles I've ruled out transmission problems and no codes or warning lights are given during engine analysis.

I am having the same problem but it only happens to me when the car engine is cold. This does not happen when the car has been on for a while. My solution is that I warm up the car for about 20 minutes before driving and my car works fine.

Added to my problem, when I press the gas, it asks like it's choking and I have to press through it, flooring the gas, to which it accelerates too much. It's ok when no in traffic. Also, when I stop the car idles really low and acts like it wants to shut off.

I am expriencing the same problem on 2004 Grand Prix. Did you vere find a solution?

Since you have "check engine" light turn on, will need scanner the PCM to know what fault code is stored there; with this code number could send you additional details, Sound like a emissions problem.

Keep in touch.

First suggestion is go to AutoZone and get the error codes read (for free) -- this'll probably tell you exactly what the problem is.

Shaking at low speed (25-30 mph)

low speed shakes indicates a wheel alignment problem
have the suspension and wheel bearings checked out by an accredited suspension shop
under acceleration it could be engine mounts cracked in the rubber being actuated by misfiring form a cylinder
run the fault codes as well

sounds like the coil pack is failing or you could just have water in your fuel.... buy a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze (it sucks up water) and add them to your tank when you fill up.... if that doesn't fix it it is likely the coil pack

You should definitely replace the fuel filter though this probably won't fix your hesitation. It wouldn't hurt to replace the spark plugs this is usually the culprit on these engine. I have the same engine in a '99 caravan and found the for some reason the spark plugs on cylinder 3 and 4 loosen up after one year and cause a misfire between 45 and 50 mph under load (when mildly accelerating).

had a problem with a grand prix like that once, was the fuel filter, and injectors, all needed replaced, and it only had 89,000 miles.
Would check fuel filter first. Is it possible you got some bad gas??
