Alot of variables here to make a valid suggestion, my recommendation is to pay a shop to hook to the diagnostic computer to eliminate possible causes. Instinct tells me valves are out of adjustment or injectors partally clogging, like I said , too many variables..

Rough idle after timing belt change what can it be?

if over 80,000 miles it could be exhaust system or catalytic converter. If it has been idling rough since you got the belt changed, I would contact the mechanic and just ask. Are the rpm's moving up and down or at all?

Engine light is on, gotten progressively louder over the weeks whether idling or driving. Intermittent.

Turn the key on and off three times. The odometer will read the code, then just google it or bring it back here.

I have a 2001 Lexus ES300. The dealer says it needs a new Charcoal Canister. I had hear on line that it was covered, by the emmissions warranty up to 80,000 miles, is this true?

maybe but warranties are usually bound by time as well eg;3 years 80,000 miles whichever comes first,i think its more likely you will need to pay for it as its 8 years old and they do expire through normal use,be careful what you read/hear online a lot of it is not 100% accurate

Lexus rx300 2002 starts and immediately stalls.

I have a 2001 Lexus RX300 with 120,000 miles on it and I know exactly what is wrong with this car. You either need a new a new Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) or you must clean the one you have with some throttle body cleaner. I cleaned mine a couple of years ago. They are usually good for about 80,000 miles and then they get dirty due to emission controls (smog being recirculated and reburned). The IACV is located near the trottle body on the underside. Check and you will see specific instructions on how to clean this throttle body. It costs you a can of throttle body cleaner and some of your time and this condition will not occur again - I did it!

My 2000 rx300 is not holding its idle rpm when i try and start it. It runs though if I hold the gas pedal. what do I need to check or what do I need to replace to fix this problem?

I have a 2001 RX300 and I had this EXACT problem just a year ago. I recommend cleaning your idle air control valve. It does not need replaced. If you take it to a dealership, they want to replace it for $400.00. Just clean it, trust me it works. I cleaned mine with throttle body cleaner and I have not had the problem since. I did this at 80,000 miles and I now have 120,000 miles on it. Go to to see more info about this condition. I used this site to get the steps on how to access the idle air control valve (it's underneath the right side of the throttle boddy). Clean it with Q-tips and throttle body cleaner - this is what worked for me. The I.A.C.V. is a round mechanism that needs to turn within it's housing - when it gets dirty then it doesn't turn and this causes a rough idle or it causes the car to stall. The I.A.C.V. gets dirty because of the recirculation of smog (for emission controls).

? to Replace Timing belt on 2000 Lexus Rx300 with 57,000 miles.

If it is running perfectly I wouldn't think that you would need to replace the timing belt. You shouldn't need to replace that until 100,000-120,000 miles. I would definitely hold off until now unless you have start having some timing problems. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks for rating my response and for using FixYa!

Lexus RX300 with 95000 miles uses a quart of oil every 400 miles

My 2001 was having the same issue. I replaced the PCV valve and it fixed the problem. Total Cost 5.00. It is easily accesable but you may have difficulty finding it. It is located Left Rear Top of engine (Passenger side). Its brass and it screws in. I went online at my library and found diagram at this location.
