Question about 2001 Isuzu Trooper

Just replaced front pump seal on transmission because diagnostics test said it was bad. replaced all spark plugs,diagnostics test also said EGR vavle had bad flow-nothing done. check engine light went off when seal was replaced but wouldnt take off in drive-but instead-had to manually shift from L-D, engine reved before shifting from 1-2. check engine light came back on and for the first time the check transmission light came on.

Depending on the wear and mileage of your Trooper, I recommend taking it to a transmission shop for a maintanence and band adjustment, the systems you are relying on can be giving mixed values due to other variables (vacuum leaks, etc. for example) current condition could do alot of damage

Definition: Engine cranks OK, but does not start for a long time. Does eventually run, or may start but immediately dies.
Preliminary
• Refer to the Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check .
• Refer to Important Preliminary Checks .
• Refer to Visual/Physical Checks .
• Search for bulletins.
Sensor/System
• Check Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor for being shifted in value. Connect a Scan Tool and compare the Engine Coolant Temperature with the Intake Air Temperature on a cold engine. The ECT and IAT should be within ± 3°C (5°F) of each other. Check the resistance of the ECT sensor if the temperature is out of range with the IAT sensor. Refer to Temperature vs Resistance . If the ECT sensor resistance is not within the specification, refer to DTC P0117 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit Low Voltage or DTC P0118 Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) Sensor Circuit High Voltage .
• Check the throttle body inlet screen for foreign objects or damage that may affect the MAF sensor airflow sample. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement .
• Use a scan tool in order to check the IAC operation. Refer to Idle Air Control (IAC) System Check .
• EGR system. Check the for the following conditions:
- EGR pipes and adapter for vacuum leaks.
- Remove the EGR valve and check for a stuck open pintle. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .
Fuel System
• Check the fuel pump relay circuit for proper operation. Refer to Fuel Pump Electrical Circuit Diagnosis .
• Check for incorrect fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel System Pressure Test .
• Check the fuel injectors. Refer to Fuel Injector Solenoid Coil Test .
• Check for fuel contamination. Refer to Alcohol/Contaminants-in-Fuel Test .
Ignition System
• Check for proper ignition voltage output by using the following steps:
- Clip the spark tester J 26792 to engine ground.
- Connect one end of a spark plug wire to the spark tester while leaving the other end of the spark plug wire to the coil being tested.
- Connect one end of another spark plug wire to the other coil tower.
- Connect the other end of the spark plug wire to ground.
- Crank the engine while observing the spark tester. A crisp blue spark should be observed.
- Repeat the above steps for each coil.
• If an adequate spark is not present at the coil(s), check for the following conditions:
- Coil(s) - Cracks, carbon tracking/arcing, or a resistance value outside the specified range.
Coil Resistance
5000 - 8000 ohms (5K - 8K ohms)
- Spark Plug wires
• signs of arcing/cross
• cracks
• carbon tracking
• firing
• plug boot damage
• pinched or improper routing
• high resistance
- Spark plug wire resistances should measure less than the specified value.
VIN 1 Spark Plug Wire Resistance
7000 ohms (7K ohms).
VIN K Spark Plug Wires Resistance
10000 ohms (10K ohms).
Important: Spraying the secondary ignition wires with a light mist of water may help locate an intermittent problem. Ignition components will arc to ground when a secondary component is malfunctioning.
- Defective module.
- Ignition System Wiring - Loose ignition module feed or ground connection, or damaged system wiring.
• Remove spark plugs and check for the following conditions:
- Fouled plugs
- Cracks
- Wear
- Improper gap
- Burned or damaged electrodes
- Improper heat range or reach
• If spark plugs are gas or oil fouled, the cause of the fouling must be determined before replacing the spark plugs.
Engine Mechanical
• Excessive oil in combustion chamber-Leaking valve seals. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
• Low cylinder compression. Refer to Engine Mechanical.
• For incorrect basic engine parts. Inspect the following:
- Cylinder heads
- Camshaft and valve train components
- Pistons, etc.
- Refer to Engine Mechanical.

How to know if i need to replace the idle control vavle


This could be due to

- faulty ignition leads leaking spark
- worn spark plugs
- cracked distributor cap
- vacuum leaks at the intake plenum, large flexible air intake hose, or small vacuum hose
- EGR valve faulty

The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this or other drive-ability related problems occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Faulty EGR valves do not cause "false" misfire codes. An EGR valve that is not closing properly can cause misfires (and misfire codes) but they are REAL misfires when this happens.

To understand this, you need to understand what a misfire is and what kinds of things can cause them. It is a very LONG list and I do not have the time or space to get into all that here.

You will also need to understand this if you are going to properly diagnose your misfire codes without wasting a whole bunch of money on parts that you do not need. MANY things can cause misfires other than spark plugs and ignition coils.

I do not know what EGR code you are getting, but I will tell you that in the 37 years that I have been diagnosing and repairing cars, there has only been once that I can remember that I have ever replaced an EGR valve on a Ford engine because the valve itself was faulty. Most EGR codes on Fords are caused by either clogged-up EGR ports or a bad DPFE sensor. Every so often you will find a bad EGR control solenoid or a broken vacuum line, but it is extremely rare that the EGR valve itself the cause. With the exception of leaking vacuum lines and on certain engines, clogged EGR ports (Like the 6 individual EGR ports in the 4.2L engine), none of these causes for EGR codes will cause any misfires.

Also, most of the time when people pull the trigger on the ignition coils on the 5.4L and 4.6L engines, all the thing really needs is new spark plug boots. They get contaminated with oil and water and can cause carbon-tracking on the spark plugs and/or arcing into the spark plug wells instead of sending the spark through the spark plug. It is pretty much the same thing as having bad spark plug wires on a conventional ignition system. You don't throw the coil and distributor away on a conventional system because it needs new wires. Neither should you replace a coil on a COP ignition system that just needs a boot. Some auto makers do not make the boots available seperate from the coil. Ford at least had the insight to understand that people cannot afford the cost of replacing all of their coils just because the boots are defective.

I have a 1992 f150 5.0 i bought another motor to put in it. I put all new seals n timing chain n oil pump. Put it in and it wont idel and it pop in the intank also is misses. But number one cyndler getting...


Check the spark plug and maybe replace it with a new on. next thig to try is to replace that one plug wire. next check your distributor cap for cracks or crusty contacts on the inside. after all that, you may need to do a comprssion test on that cylinder. you may have a bad intake valve/stuck vavle. a leak down test would tell much of the story..keep it simple and check/test the simple things/cheep things first.. also you may want to recheck your timming marks, if they are off it could cause this problem, check your timming... good luck!!

The secondary air pump has failed and will need to replaced. The pump is an emissions component meant to help with cold start emissions. Replace it, clear the code & you should be fine. I hope this information was helpful.

I have problem with reanult traffic 2006 is lossing power after changing fuel pump and egr valve. and timing belt also glow plug.


The EGR has no effect on power whatsoever, it only opens to burn exhaust on decelleration to save fuel and help emissions. You should check the vacuum lines to the EGR for a leak, though. Glow plug has no effect on motor when hot, but make sure it is sealed well. Do a compression test, preferrably when hot. Did you replace the fuel filter? Always do this when replacing the pump. If not, do this: Check fuel pressure AND volume, this is the most common mistake here: A weak fuel pump can build proper pressure when not under a load (when engine off or idle), but when there is no restriction the pressure will fall below acceptable pressure. To check flow, remove line and operate line for 30-60 seconds into a quart or gallon container, depending on what the manual states. If the volume dispensed in the time alotted is not enough, replace your fuel filter. Test again before putting back together and driving. If fuel is still insufficient, you have a bad pump. If all the above test fine, you need to pull the front cover and recheck the timing belt, you may be one tooth off which is what it really sounds like to me, but I am trying to give you the easiest way out first....

My 92, chevy 5.7 v8 will start 4 a moment then dies pumping the gas doesnt really help either ive changed the spark plugs, wires & cap, fuel pump egr vavle, checked fuses & it still wont run


Sounds like the fuel pump. it is in the gas tank and rather pricey for the Chev. trucks. easiest to drop the tank and clean area around it really good first.

Fuel regulator, EGR vavle and EGR valve sensor. But this really sounds like a fuel issue. You can also check your fuel pump, and of course check your air filter and your spark plugs.
