Hi that exact error code comes back as being a fault with the egr valve now the chances are getting it changed will solve the problem
there could be a few diferent things wrong with the egr.-damaged sensor-damaged solenoid-improper harness conection-improper or damaged hoses-open/short in harness-damaged powertrain control module(PCM). oh and for where it is stand in the front of the car in the middle lean to the very back of the engine and you will se the throttel positioning sensor an inch behind that is the egr postioning valve and 3 inches to you'r left is everything els good luck!

i hope that gives you some help on finding the egr valve/sensor getting this replaced should solve your problem

let me know if you need further assistance ok

you can also google how to replace egr valve on ford probe and that will then list loads of sites that should give you step by step instructions on doing this.

it will be in the workshop manual if you have one of them if not use google and you should find loads of guides that can help you

Is there a simple way to tell if a crank sensor on a 1996 ford probe gt 24 valve engine is stopping it from starting?

If you have fuel injector pulse, engine cranking, I don't think the crank sensor is your problem. Just my opinion.

My 1996 Ford Probe will crank but wont start. After 3 to 35 minute wait it will start. Sometimes it will drag the battery down and I have to wait for it to re-energize, then it will start. What is the...

Once you get your Ford to start, does the engine run normally ? If yes, then timing not an issue. If no, you may consider timing, but not until other components have been checked.
Have you done any maintenance to your vehicle like a tune up, air filter / fuel filter change. Have you checked fuel pressure ?
Have you checked for any codes in the engine control module ?

Ok.. The code P1400. Is. Related with the E.G.R system.
" Exaust Gas Recirculation"
The code P1400 is Exactly.
Sensor DPFEGR low voltage.
This code can set for.
Leaking up-strim pressure hose.
DPFEGR sensor Short to ground or signal return circuit.
VREF selenoid shorted to ground or signal return circuit.
Faulty DPFEGR .
or In the last case faulty PCM.

Ok.. The DPFEGR is a little box Located at the intake manifold.
to identificate See the Exaust Manifold Gasket you will see.
2 Little hoses Goin at the little box. When you found.
Check the hoses for cracked or damaged repair as need.
Check the connector.
The VREF. to locate follow the Little vaccum hose GREEN.
Goin to the EGR attached at the Intake manifold .
and check the connection.
If everything is OK. I recomend to replace the DPFEGR.

NOTE. If you don't have enought Expertise on vehicles.
I recomed to consult with your mechanic. and maybe give this information.
But if you can do your self go ahead.

Looking for a picture of the engine of a 1996 ford probe

no, if the oil pressure is eratic the first thing i would check is the oil pump. unless lots of black smoke is coming out the tail pipe. in that case your engine seals are bad and you will have to do a compleate rebuild on the engine.

Over heating

When you are running the car,do the cooling fans come on? What was the reason for replacing the radiator? After you installed it did you have the system pressure tested? Something as simple as a bad radiatior cap can cause an overheat.Another thing to check is the temperature the coolant temp sensor is sending to the on board computer. The noise you are hearing, is it coming from the valve cover? Send the info back and include the engine and the transmission type. Thanks
