You do not need a tool to remove them. They are considered a knock off rotor. Once you remove the 2 caliper bolts ( a hex socket is needed and I apologize for not knowing the correct size of hand) you can remove the caliper. If the rotor is stuck in place you may have to gently hit it from the backside with a hammer.

If you plan on reusing the rotor a block of wood between the rotor and hammer will help marring the surface of the rotor.

Sometime you will need to get really aggressive with the hammer but eventually it will pop loose.

What size tool/kind of tool do i need to remove the big center star nut on my 2007 toyota highlander front rotor

The rotors are knock off rotors. They are just rusted and stuck to the hub. DO NOT REMOVE THE AXLE NUT. this will not help you get the rotor off. Instead use a large hammer and hit the rotor from the back side. Several good whacks should break it free.

Brake rotor removal

you shouldn't need any special tool all you have to do is remove the caliper assembly of the rotor and the rotor should come right off. If not then the rotor should come off if a there is a nut holding it on there

if so by removing brake caliper & mounting bracket the rotor will slide off
spray down around rotor & hab with rust penetrant, couple of taps/hits on rotor face
some rotors have a taped hole(see picture 2 o'clock)using 2 bolts screw in to assist removal
dont see any special tools being needed
good luck

What tools are needed to change the brakes

if the front are rotors there are two bolts that need to be taken off first.
remove the caliper, then remove the two caliper bracket bolts and remove the rotor
replace the rotor and reinstall the caliper bracket.
pull the caliper sliders and lube them with brake grease.
reinstall caliper sliders and install new pads and caliper
refasten caliper to bracket and your done

if your doing rear disc brakes same as front
if brakes are drum type you will need rear drum brake tools to release the springs and to refasten
the new brake shoes

Saturn Sl1 1998 Front Barke Rotors and Barke Pads

It's not that hard to replace, but there are some tools that your going to have to buy. If there is a Auto Zone in you're area, you can buy the brake pads and may be a new brake rotor if they look to worn out. The rotors are not that expensive any more. They also have the right tools to buy or you can use there tool loner program to get the job done and they have the step by step instructions to replacing the break pads. If you like you can log on to AutoZone.com and look up the instructions to replacing the brake pads on your car. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Front brake rotor removal

Your rotors have an integrated hub with serviceable bearing.

Remove the six bolts around the center of the hub and pry off the grease cover.

behind it you will find a locking wheel with two philips screws holding it in position. Remove the screws and unscrew the locking wheel.

Behind is a large axle locknut that requires a special tool to remove. It has two small holes to grip with. Unscrew it and you will be able to remove the outer bearing, then slide the rotor off the spindle/axle.

From there you can unbolt the rotor disc from the hub backside, or replace the whole unit. Replacing the whole unit will require installing new bearings/races, however.

Either method will require repacking the bearings and loading the bearings with the special locknut tool.

Front brake rotors 1995 toyota 4runner

If you have 6 bolts going around the center (manual lock in/lock out) hub, you are going to be there a while. The center hub needs to come off, and ALL of the internal wheel bearings need to come out. The whole locking hub must be removed in order get the rotor off. This is NOT an easy job, and you need a special tool to loosen/tightem the wheel bearings. Figure 2 hrs per side if you have all of the proper tools & skill level.
