Question about 2001 Chrysler Sebring

We have a 2001 sebring 3.0l v6. It lost power after an accereration, no noises or anything. Now it will not come out of park if the engine is running. We ran a diagnostic on the computer and got the following codes P0403 (exhaust gas recirculation control unit), P0765 (Shift solenoid d malfunction), P0760 (shift solenoid c malfunction), P0340 (camshaft position sensor A circuit) and P0335 (camshaft position sensor A circuit malfunction). Can anyone help?

    ok so lets say that you are correct. have you got any idea how much the wiring harness might cost to replace. I mean balpark couple hundred, a thousand etc?

    did not mean to imply you did not know what you are talking about, you had said "if I had to guess". Thank you for your assisstance. What do you mean by a rust state? ps the car is at the dealership for diagnosis.

The P0403 error code is the EGR system that consists of a valve and solenoid controlled by the engine computer. Replace the EGR valve. The P0765 and P0760 error codes are transmission related. Replace the transmission shift solenoid. The P0340 and P0335 codes are a cam sensor fault. You will need to flash update your vehicle computer to fix this problem.

This many codes are way over the head of any Do It Yourself-er, this needs to be hooked up to a scanner that reads live main stream data from the sensors u have code for, If I had to guess u have a shorted electronic engine control wiring harness, only careful diagnosis and testing can determine the root cause, see professional help on this, a dealer is best.

    the harness can be repaired, it can't be replace with a new one most likely they are out of production, a used harness if that is what it takes is about $250. Have them check all the connections to the bulk head connector and the fuse box under the hood if so equipped.

    my experience? 25 years as a Master automotive electronics technician, these types of problems were my everyday job, there is no magic fix, just careful diagnosis and inspection, if u are in a "rust" state then look for corroded wire connectors.

on all machines on earth, find and fix abnormal sounds first
and grinding tops my list.
power loss is 2nd. to that. as it will be zero power soon.

Starter attempts to re-engage after already running


I agree with Ignition switch diagnosis. Another possibility is a short in the lockout for the gearshift and brake pedal lever. This is suppose to stop you from starting the vehicle unless your foot is on the brake pedal. These get smashed and it should not allow power to go to the starter relay, but if they do cross the circuit, it may provide power to the starter relay. You did not say if the starter tried to engage when you tried to shift from Park.

I think the Ignition switch is the most likely, but I wanted to mention the crushed lockout switch as a remote possibility.

See if the ignition still works by checking for spark on a spark plug wire. If no spark could be the ignition module or the crank position sensor.
I doubt if anything wrong with the timing belt-you would have heard a loud pop if it broke. Look inside the oil filler place on top- of the valve cover. When the engine is cranked, if belt is good you will see movement of the camshafts and the valves moving up and down.

The 2001 sebring always have these I belive it a pattern failure you are the 1000 person with this problem the cause the oil pump lost pressure if anything your engine top end has frozed so if you do just the timing you will end up doing the whole engine, you are better off replacing the engine you will only repair the problem and not the cause, look for a rebuilt engine with a good warranty . Its less expensive to replace the engine plus its faster and easier

There is probably a feedback (noise)filter connected somwhere near the coil. the are usually a cylindrical metal filter about the size of a double a battery,usually have a single wire connecting them,there may be one for each ignition coil,the will usually burn the wire when they are bad,not always. hope this helps.

Where is the cam sensor in the 2001 chrysler sebring convertible


the cam sensor is located on the cylinder head on the side. it usually bolts to it with four bolts. it is square in shape. most likely it is on the drivers side of the engine.

Removing the 2.7 engine from 2001 sebring sedan?


ok heres the simple version its alot of work
remove hood put someplace safe
disconnect all wireing and mark off with masking tape and marker
****** you need car lift ******
remove all plastic part molding from engine
find the engine hoist holes for chain to hook to
this is a unibodi design so the whole front chassis drops down
unbolt the chassis make sure to have the chasis blocked and stable
lift car while chasis stays on floor engine tranny and every thing inside hood comes down on the unibody this is how you remove an engine from a sebring

or you take to the dealer spend the doe cause you got a nice car and have it done right
