I know this won't be easy but you will need to back probe the the power and ground wires at the connector that plugs into the fuel pump. You'll will need to use a volt meter to see what the voltage is exactly.

When you turn the key on you should see 12 volts on the power wire for 3-5 seconds(positive lead of the voltmeter on the power wire and the negative lead on a known good ground, DO NOT USE THE GROUND WIRE AT THE PUMP CONNECTOR), again with the connector plugged in. If you see less than that say 5 or 6 volts than you have extra resistance in the circuit before the pump. This could be a corroded connection in a connector or a burnt up relay.

If you have 12 volts than check the ground circuit. Place the positive lead of the voltmeter on the ground wire and the negative lead on a known good ground. You should see no voltage when you turn the key on. If you see 12 volts than the ground circuit is bad.

What should the fuel pressure be for a 2001 chevrolet Tahoe 1/2 ton 1500, 5.3 V8 engine?

With the key on and engine off it should read 55-62 psi. When you turn the key on it will power up the fuel pump for about 2 seconds. The pressure should read between 55 to 62 psi.It will usually read in the higher area then go down but it should stay in between these readings and hold for at least 10 minutes. If not make sure you are getting power and ground to the fuel pump.If power and grounds are good then the pump is bad.Let me know if you have any more questions.Good luck.

My 2500 chey silverodo starts hardfor the first 10

Hi, if it's a diesel engine, they all have to sit for some seconds because of the glow plugs. Some diesel don't send power to the starter until the glow plugs run for the pre-determined amount of time. There are many things that could be causing this. Fuel filter, clogged injectors, fuel pump going bad or bad connection to fuel pump. Try checking out for this things..
Take care

If the fuel pump module is heating up it is usually because of a faulty ground. Verify or relocate the ground wire if necessary.

1991 chey pick up 1500 electric fuel pump

Hello, Only 2 wires show be hot when fuel pump power is supplied. I think that the gray wire is the power side so ck that wire to ground. Also, fuel pump power is supplied from your oil pressure switch and the fuel pump relay only supplies power for a few seconds until the truck is started. Keep in mind that the fuel pump will only run a few seconds by just turning the switch on. If you want the pump to stay on without the motor running , you will have to by-pass the fuel pump relay.
I hope this will help.
