It is best to get the whole power window regulator assembly instead of only replacing motor. But if only motor has to be replaced then it is also possible. To remove the motor the regulator has to be removed then motor has to be removed from regulator assembly.
Unbolt existing window regulator assembly and slide guides from aluminum window track (you will have to UN-crimp one end of track). But in most cases both has to be replaced for exact window working.
To see the window regulator together click this link:--This picture is just for the reference. It may or may not match your cars window motor and regulator. But both has to be removed, this makes the procedure simple.----- http://www.paulstravelpictures.com/GM-Power-Window-Motor-Regulator-Replacement-Guide/GM-Window-Motor-Regulator-Replacement-028.JPG ----------- The motor is held either with screws or hex head bolts. Remove all the mounting screws/bolts and the motor is free. Lift it through the door frame and remove it from the car.

Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

Apparently so. See instructions from autozone.com below:

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Coupe

  1. Remove the door panel. For more information, refer to the procedure earlier in this section.
  2. Prop the window in the half-way position by inserting rubber wedges between the window and the inner panel (at the belt) at the front and rear of the window.

If rubber doors stops are not available, remove the window.
  1. Mark (locate) and remove the inner panel cam and the vertical guide screws. Remove the vertical guide through the large access hole. Disengage the electrical connector from the window regulator motor.
  2. Using a center punch and a 1 / 4 in. drill bit, drive out the center pins, then drill out the regulator rivets.
  3. Remove the lower sash channel cam-to-glass rear nut, then slide the regulator rearward and disengage the roller from the lower sash channel cam.
  4. Remove the regulator and motor through the largest inner panel access hole.

To install:
  1. Install the regulator through the largest inner panel access hole.
  2. Slide the regulator forward and engage the rollers to the lower sash channel cam, then install the lower sash channel cam-to-glass rear nut.
  3. Secure the regulator in position using 1 / 4 -20 x 1 / 2 in. fasteners
  4. Engage the motor electrical connector.
  5. Install the vertical guide through the large access hole, then install the inner panel cam using the mark made earlier.
  6. Reposition and secure the window.
  7. Install the door panel.

Sedan
  1. Position the window in the Full-Up position and tape the glass to the frame.
  2. Locate and remove the inner panel cam screws and the cam.
  3. Remove the remote handle-to-lock connecting rod. Disengage the wiring harness connector at the window regulator motor.
  4. Using a center punch and a 1 / 4 in. drill bit, drive out the center pins, then drill out the regulator rivets.
  5. Disengage the rollers from the lower sash channel cam.
  6. Remove the regulator and motor through the largest inner panel access hole.

To install:
  1. Install the regulator through the largest inner panel access hole.

Power window on 1986 monte carlo will not go up all the way, stops 2 inches short??

mario nino try taken off the door panel and see if you can loosen the bolts that hold the window unit in. see if you can move the whole assembly up a little. if not try adding some more grease into the the slide( thats the piece of metal that should have the little plastic wheels that run inside of it, the metal will be a u shape). when you put the grease in work the window up and down to work it in. if this still doesnt work then it could possibly be the window regulator or even the motor jamming up or in a bind

I have power windows!when i put window down all the way then back up it popps off the track

Thanks for choosing FixYa. More then likely, your track is broken. It will need replaced for the window to operate correctly. You will need to take off the panel and any material inside the door out, such as foam or plastic. The track bar needs changed. If you have other questions, please let me know. Thanks for using FixYa.

I have a 97 monte carlo w/power windows. Originally the passenger window would go down from drivers side then wouldn't go at all. had the switch replaced and it worked for about a month. now it won't go...

It's probably the window regulator. They can be purchased at the dealership or sometimes you can find them cheaper if you go aftermarket. They can be pretty tricky to replace but most body shops can do it pretty cheap. They can also usually do it while you wait if they aren't that busy you've got 30-45 minutes.

check fuse in fuse panel. if that's not it, you would need to check motor and regulator to make sure they are working.

I dont know what or where the fuses go in a 1998 monte carlo for the windows

CHECK BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL FOR A PANEL OR OPEN THE DRIVERS DOOR AND LOOK ON THE SIDE OF THE DASH BOARD AND LOOK FOR A SMALL PANEL OR IN THE CORNER NEXT TO THE EMERGENCY BRAKE PADDLE. ONE OF THESE AREAS OK? GOOD LUCK!

Need to remove window knob from 1979 monte carlo.

Getting to be an old vehicle now days. The mount that the window knob mounts on is usually a star type gear that the handle is pushed onto. There should be a very small hole in the round part of the handle that an allen set can slide into. Then loosened the hanle should pull off the star gear. Once the handle is removed the inside door panel should easily pull out over the gear.

Ignition switch replacement 1983 monte carlo

you have to take off the steering wheel.if you dont have the right tools to do so i would not attempt it.the turn signal switch has to be moved it just pulls over the end of the column.then there is a torx head screw at about 1 oclock in the column that has to be removed.and the ign.just pulls out.the dimmer switch is kinda tricky.a locksmith usually dont charge to much to do this job.it would probably cost you more to buy the tools you need to do it yourself
