Question about 1999 Ford Expedition
Okay. Many of the problems can have more than 1 thing going on. Lets look at what happens with a tow. With a tow, the vehicle is shook, the gearshift is moved to Neutral, and the steering wheel is left to turn and track with the tow vehicle. The Ignition switch is unlocked so the Steering wheel can move and so that the Trans can be put into Neutral.
Sometimes Women keep their purse on the Passenger seat or behind the console in the back seat area. When you reach for your purse, your legs lift your feet up under the dash and the Brake pedal where a Starter Interlock switch is. Check the switches under the pedals, and the fuse box for displaced fuses.
If no success with this area, the problem will be the small wire going to the Starter Relay. The Starter Relay is at the end of the Red (plus) cable from your Battery. It is on the top of the Firewall and has Big cables going to and from it. The small wire makes it work. You need a test light or meter to see if there is power there when the key is turned to START. If there is power there and it does not crank, the Starter Relay is bad. We are only looking for power on the small wire, not the post it is connected to.
If there is no power on this wire, Herein lies the cranking problem. So much has to line up to make it work. The Ignition Key has to work in the START position, the Shift Interlock switch has to be in PARK or NEUTRAL, and the Brake pedal switch has to be pressed by a foot on the pedal.
If anyone of these 3 is out of line, the power will not go to the small wire to the Starter Relay. This is why I suggest looking under the Brake pedal area. The other factor is the Antitheft which is Electronic and you can not see a defect in it like the other 3 parts.
Would like to know the outcome.
