You can buy the plastic clips from the dealer, break the old ones, there is no tool that I remember using, in fact I don't remember having any problem, are you sure the regulator is at fault? why not just replace the motor?

Disconnect the battery negative cable, carefully remove the door panel, make sure you remove all the visible hold down screws holding the arm rest and other things in place, be careful and observant, don't force anything. If you don't have the standard door panel removal tools, use a stiff putty knife or a wide screwdriver to remove the door panel, you will have to get the power window control switch and the lock control rods out of the way, take notes so you know how they go back together, Remove the plastic weather protection shield out of the way, try not to tear it because you will want to replace it using a good contact adhesive. Getting the motor and the lift mechanism out is the biggest challenge, There are two big rivets holding the motor and regulator assembly to the door, there are two more rivets closer to the rear of the door that holds the track and window guide in place. the rivets are difficult to drill out because it's not easy to center punch them. I used my 4 inch grinder to remove the rivet heads, be careful not to injure yourself or grind through the door metal. knock the rivets out. Remove the power supply wire from the motor. Use a 10 MM socket to untighten the two cap screws that hold the lift bracket to the bottom glass channel. Don't take the cap screws all the way out. Use a piece of wire to hold the window in the closed position. Loop the wire over one of the hold down cap screws and fasten the other end through one of the convenient holes near the top of the door. Now comes the good part. the motor and lift mechanism is all in one near rigid piece. The seat belt anchor blocks the door panel opening that would make it relatively easy to remove. Don't give up, the unit will come out with some thoughtful manipulation, the V shaped track guide will tolerate a small amount of flexing, don't overdo it. I finally got the assembly out by moving it as far to the back of the the door cavity as possible, use the angles of the assembly to your advantage to free it from the door. Once free, use a black marker to ensure you align your new motor in the correct postition. If you are replacing a complete assembly that looks the same a the part you removed, install by reversing the above directions. If you are replacing only the motor, drill out the two rivets that hold the motor to the lift assembly. this will be asy to do. fit your new motor in the exact same position, referring to the previous marks you made. If you are reusing the old lift mechanism, you should pull the perforated tape out of the guide, clean, inspect it, the guide and the tape, relubricate it, I used white grease, there is probably a better grease available. The motor assembly I received from an internet supplier came with rivets and machine screws to install the assembly, I used 1/2 quarter twenty nuts and bolts to replace the big rivets, I don't have a big enough rivet gun. If you go the quarter twenty way, use thread lock, install with bolt heads on the inside the door and flat washers and nuts to the car interior. Be observant, I left the plastic bracket that attaches the drive tape to the window bottom in an unsecure place, one of my dogs used it as a chew toy,so it was off to the junkyard one more time. Be sure to secure the tape properly at both ends. If it worn or frayed, several suppliers including rockauto supply them at reasonable cost. good luck.

How to install power window cable

  1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
  2. Remove the window regulator from the door.
    • Remove door trim panel.
    • Remove isolator.
    • Remove front door glass.
    • Loosen bolts attaching regulator to inner door panel.
    • Remove bolt attaching regulator to inner door panel.
      • Lift regulator upward to disengage bolts from door inner panel.
      • Disengage power window regulator harness connector, if equipped.
      • Remove regulator through access hole in door
    • Place the window regulator on a suitable work surface and remove the screws that secure the power window motor to the window regulator.
    • Remove the power window motor from the window regulator.

Cable system on passenger door power window, 1999 dodge Caravan, has slipped off track. Need exploded diagram to restore to original.


REMOVAL

1. Remove the watershield. (Refer to 23 - BODY/DOOR - FRONT/WATERSHIELD - REMOVAL)

2. Remove door glass retaining clips and secure the window in the up position using masking tape or equivalent(FRONT DOOR GLASS CLIPS).

3. Disconnect wire connector from power window motor, if equipped.

4. Loosen screws attaching front and rear window guide rails to inner door panel (FRONT DOOR MANUAL WINDOW REGULATOR - TYPICAL).

5. Remove screw heads on guide rails from key hole slots in inner door panel.

6. Loosen screws attaching regulator to inner door panel.

7. Remove regulator from inner door panel.

8. Extract rear guide rail through inner door panel rear access hole (FRONT DOOR POWER WINDOW - TYPICAL).

9. Extract front guide rail through front access hole.

INSTALLATION

1. Insert front guide rail through front access hole.

2. Insert rear guide rail through rear access hole.

3. Place window regulator in position on inner door panel.

4. Place screw heads on guide rails in position through key hole slots in inner door panel.

5. Tighten screws to attach front and rear guide rails to inner door panel.

6. Connect wire connector into power window motor, if equipped.

7. Install door glass.

8. Verify door glass alignment and operation.

9. Install sound shield and door trim panel

Door Glass and Regulator - REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
Front Door
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the front door panel to gain access to the regulator assembly.
  3. Remove the service hole cover.
  4. Lower the regulator until the door glass is in the fully open position.
  5. Remove the two glass channel mount bolts.
  6. Pull the glass up and out of the door.
  7. Unbolt and remove the inside door panel frame if so equipped.
  8. If equipped with power windows, disconnect the electrical connector.
  9. Remove the equalizer arm bracket mounting bolts.
  10. Remove the window regulator mounting bolts and the regulator (with the power window motor attached) through the service hole.
To install:
  1. Coat all the window regulator sliding surfaces with multi-purpose grease.
  2. Place the regulator (with the power window motor) through the service hole and secure with the mounting bolts. tighten the bolts to 48 inch lbs. (5 Nm). Attach the power window harness if equipped.
  3. Place the door glass into the door cavity.
  4. Connect the glass to the regulator with the channel mount bolts.
  5. With the equalizer arm, raise the glass to the almost closed position and make sure that the leading and trailing edges of the glass are equally distant from the top of the glass channel. If not, adjust the equalizer arm to achieve an even fit.
  6. Install the service hole cover.
  7. Install the door panel and reconnect the negative battery cable. Check window and door for proper operation.

That big coil spring is part of the window regulator, that spring help's the window motor raise the window, the regulator will also have to be replace, that spring goes at the pivit point on the regulator, where the gear part of the window motor bolt's to.

How do you replace the regulator for the power window on the 2002 ford explorer


Regulator - Power Windows - Front Door
  1. Remove the front door trim panel as follows:
    1. Remove the front door handle bezel.
    2. Remove the front door window/lock control switch bezel.
    3. Disconnect the window/lock control switch electrical connectors.
    4. Remove the 3 front door trim panel screws.
      CAUTION To avoid damaging the trim panel, do not pull directly outward to carry out this step.
    5. Lift the door trim panel by pulling directly upward on the armrest to disengage the panel clips.
    6. Remove the exterior mirror control switch from the front door trim panel.
  2. Remove the front door speaker.
  3. Remove the interior molding.
  4. Disconnect the door lock actuating rod at the door handle assembly:
    1. Release the door lock actuating rod clip.
    2. Position the door lock actuating rod aside.
  5. Remove the front door weather shield.
    CAUTION Make sure the holes in the glass bracket do not become enlarged during the rivet removal process. If the holes become enlarged, the new rivets may become loose, resulting in clicking noise concern.
    NOTE Some vehicles may use rivets to attach the window glass to the window regulator assembly. Use a 4.5 mm (0.1772 in) drill bit to drill out the glass-to-regulator rivets.
  6. Remove the 2 front door window glass-to-regulator bolts or rivets.
  7. Position the front door window glass as necessary to access the front door window glass-to-regulator bolts or rivets.
  8. Secure the front door glass in the full up position with tape.
  9. Disconnect the window regulator motor electrical connector.
  10. Remove the 4 window regulator assembly nuts.
  11. Remove the window regulator assembly.

To install:
  1. Position the window regulator assembly.
  2. Install the 4 window regulator assembly nuts. Tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
  3. Connect the window regulator motor electrical connector.
  4. Remove the tape securing the front door glass in the full up position.
  5. Position the front door window glass as necessary to access the front door window glass-to-regulator bolts or rivets. Install the bolt and tighten the bolts to 62 inch lbs. (7 Nm), or install new rivets.
  6. Install the front door weather shield.
  7. Connect the door lock actuating rod at the door handle assembly:
    1. Position the door lock actuating rod into proper location.
    2. Attach the door lock actuating rod clip.
  8. Install the interior molding.
  9. Install the front door speaker.
  10. Install the front door trim panel as follows:
    1. Install the exterior mirror control switch from the front door trim panel.
    2. Position the door trim panel onto the armrest to engage the panel clips.
    3. Install the 3 front door trim panel screws.
    4. Connect the window/lock control switch electrical connectors.
    5. Install the front door window/lock control switch bezel.
    6. Install the front door handle bezel.

  1. Raise the front door window glass to the full up position.
  2. Remove the interior door handle.
  3. Support the front door window glass.
  4. Disconnect the front door window regulator motor electrical connector.
  5. Remove the equalizer bracket nuts.

I need a left front door/window schematic on line for a 99 Dodge Durango. I need to see how to put it together.


Front Door
  1. Remove the door trim panel.
  2. Remove the water dam.
  3. Remove the inner and outer door belt weatherstrips.
  4. Lower the window to the full down position and align the glass regulator arm with the access holes in the inner door panel.
  5. Remove the front glass run channel.
  6. Remove the nuts attaching the glass channel to regulator arm.
  7. Separate the glass and lift it up and out.
  8. Disengage the power window motor wire connector from the door harness, if equipped.
  9. Loosen the bolts in slotted holes attaching regulator to door inner panel.
  10. Remove the bolts attaching window regulator to inner door panel.
  11. Remove the regulator through the access hole in the inner door panel.
  12. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the nuts attaching the glass to the lift plate to 7 ft. lbs. (9 Nm).

I have a 1993 Ford Tempo and am having problems removing the motor from the door. I already have the door panel removed and the power disconnected from the motor.


remove the door panel and check to make sure the linkage to the lock assembly is still attached. I can't give an estimate because I don't know what is wrong at this point

are the locks manual or electric?i have seen most electric locks freeze up because of rust/.corrosion.the rubber accordian seal fails and moisture does it's job.there is no lubrication on the mechanism.it's basically a push pull magnet tube with a spiral grooved actuator rod.this is to assure no accidental vibration/jar induced movement.also means very difficult to budge when corroded.i have gotten a few to move by grabbing lock post with pliers and pulling hard.good luck!



Rear Door Window Regulator and Motor
Removal and Installation
Remove the rear door trim panel. For additional information, refer to INTERIOR TRIM AND ORNAMENTATION .
Remove the door mounted speaker.
Remove the watershield.
NOTE:The glass must be lowered for this step.

NOTE:Some vehicles may use rivets to attach the glass to the regulator.

Remove the bolt that attaches the glass to the regulator.
Raise and support the rear door window glass to the full up position.

NOTE:Do not detach the door handle from the latch cable during this step.

Remove the rear inside door handle.
Remove the screw.
Disengage the inside door handle from the door.
If equipped, disconnect the power door lock rod from the back of the inside door handle.

Gain access to the power window motor electrical connector located in the front of the door.

Disconnect the power window motor electrical connector.
Press down on the connector tab.
Pull the connector upward and remove through the speaker opening in the door.
Disconnect the rear door window regulator and motor assembly from the door.
Remove the nuts.
Remove the screws.

Front right door window will not go up or down, it is electric. it works, some times, and some times not. it is in the down position. Would like to move to up position. I live in Arizona, I need it up for...

here's repair procedure

Window Regulator, Front Door, Explorer Removal
srk~us~en~file=ani_caut.gif~gen~ref.gif WARNING: IF THE REGULATOR COUNTERBALANCE SPRING MUST BE REMOVED OR REPLACED FOR ANY REASON, MAKE SURE THAT THE REGULATOR ARMS ARE IN A FIXED POSITION PRIOR TO REMOVAL TO PREVENT POSSIBLE INJURY DURING C-SPRING UNWIND.
  1. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield . Refer to Section 01-05B .
Trim Panel, Front Door, Explorer Hi-Series, Two-Door and Four-Door Removal and Installation
  1. Remove the two screws retaining the front door trim panel (23942) located above the window regulator handle (23342) . Also remove one screw in the upper front portion of front door trim panel .
  1. Remove inside door handle cup (22634) at the window regulator handle using a screwdriver or sharp object. Retention nibs will flex for easy removal.
  1. To remove window regulator control switch (14529) and outside rear view mirror control (17B676) , use notch located at lower end of outside rear view mirror control using a screwdriver to lift and remove.
  1. Remove outside rear view mirror control from front door trim panel pulling wire harness from inside of front door trim panel .
  1. From bottom of outside rear view mirror control, remove two screws and disconnect connector from switches. NOTE: Do not pull on the front door trim panel to remove clips from the inner panel holes.
  1. At each plastic clip location, pry the front door trim panel away from the door inner panel using the front door trim panel removing tool from Rotunda Moulding Trim Kit 107-00401 or equivalent. NOTE: Pay special attention to the cut-out in the door trim panel for the door handle, so that it clears the handle during removal without breakage.
  1. When wiring and disengagement of trim clips is completed, it is recommended that to remove panel, lift slightly to remove flange at the top of door trim panel from trough in the glass weatherstrip.
  1. Disconnect socket and bulb from illuminated interior lamp (13776) before total removal of front door trim panel. For installation, follow removal procedures in reverse order. Replace any bent, damaged or missing plastic clips on the front door trim panel to the front door trim panel , firmly loading clips into slots provided on front door trim panel .

  1. Remove two nut and washer assemblies attaching the equalizer bracket.

  1. Remove window regulator electric drive and front door window channel bracket from vehicle.
  1. Working on a bench, carefully bend tab flat to remove arm slides from front door window channel bracket .
  1. Install new window regulator electric drive arm plastic guides into front door window channel bracket and bend tab back to 90 degrees. Use care not to break tab; if tab is cracked or broken, replace front door window channel bracket . Make sure rubber bumper is installed properly on new front door window channel bracket , if replacement is made.

NOTE: The front door window channel bracket and window regulator electric drive are installed into the vehicle as one assembly. The front door window channel bracket may be disassembled from the window regulator electric drive as described in Steps 7 and 8 of Window Regulator, Removal.
  1. Install front door trim panel finish panel with preassembled glass bracket into vehicle. Set the regulator base plate to window regulator electric drive using base plate locator tab as a guide.
  1. Install three (manual) or four (power) rivets (385189-S100) to attach regulator to front door trim panel finish panel . Two 1/4-20 x 1-inch bolts and two 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies may be used as alternates for glass retention. However, torque must not exceed 4-7 Nm (3-5 ft-lb). Equivalent metric retainers may be used.
  1. Install equalizer bracket.
  1. Install inside door belt weatherstrip and glass stabilizer.
  1. Lower regulator arms to access holes in front door trim panel finish panel . Install front door window glass as outlined.
  1. Adjust glass to ensure proper alignment with glass run. Cycle glass for smooth operation.
  1. Install front door trim panel and front door trim shield . Refer to Section 01-05B .
