Question about Pontiac Firebird
IF you have the right key just program it to work. Turn the key on and bump the starter and then leave the key on. after about 15 minutes the security light will go out. turn the key off and then back on and the security light will come back on again leave it on till the light goes out. One more time turn the key off and then back on and the light will come on again, This time when the light goes out xtart the car and the car will have learned the new key. It's possible that the key reader is brocken. the wires comining down to the connector at the base of the steering collum is where you check. theirs a big connector with a bolt though the middle of it and this connector has two other plugs made into the sides of it the go to the collum in the very end of one of the plugs are two white wires that stand alone. with this plug unplugged( unbolted) the two white wires sould show OHMs resistance, only with the key in with the key out it should be open and there should be noOHMs to ground either. the resistance that you get should be the same as the key ( the pill on the sides one side to the other). If it's broke it'll not run. if you connect the key to these wires and turn the switch with another key it'll work like that or you can fix thew wires.
