Question about Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

I cant get any heat out of my 03 galant,i'm having a hard time finding the heater control valve,i've got the whole dash torne apart, its suppose to be visable unde centerr trim pannel,i've also tryed to run water directly through the heater core inlets on the firewall but i cant get anything to move through it,i'm wondering if its because of that valve being closed and if it is closed where is it?or is my heater core clogged up?

Core is clogged. The control valve is usually on the hose in the engine compartment, but I can't find one for your car.

My wife 03 galant's heater is not workin only

Did you replace the thermostat? If it is stuck open the coolant may not get hot enough to be effective.

No heat. blows but not hot

same problem here. so far ive determined that the car has the right amount of coolant, and the engine is running at the right temp the fans turn on and off and the thermostat seems to work correctly. someone advised the problem was the heater shut off motor but I dont know where it is or how to check it yet, anyone? also the car did make some noise from the blower motor so maybe the heater core is blocked with leaves or someting, ill check all before i bring it to the dealer.

I also ran into this problem on my 2002 Galant. I've found that the heater control value tends to get stuck on these vehicles, especially when the heat has not been used all summer. It will make a clicking noise from behind the dash when it fails. This is a common problem. See

My heater has quit. what do I look for. I've been told there is a valve that may be causing the problem?

there a valve sit behind the dash which control the flow of the hot coolant from the engine to the heater core is either seized up or broken. its common for the valve to get seized up if you don't used the heat often. the valve is made of hard rubber bushing tend to get seized up due to heat melt the rubber or the valve can also broken off which connect to the control knob. it a task to work on due to one has to take the dash apart to get to it. the part is cheap and easy to replace however the task part its the time consuming.

No heat on a 2003 galant. Could hear grinding

Call dealer service rep explain noise and I'll bet he suggests your heater control valve motor has failed. I just replaced mine 3 months ago. Same sympthoms. I could only get motor from dealer. and Had someone in my area who specializes in auto a/c work install it. It came out to be about $300. But you have to have heat!

Hi my heater on my mitsubishi galant 03 heater isnt working before this happend we were hearing a clicking noise when we turned it to heat.

Same problem I had for over a year...A mechanic might try to tell you it is simply the heater core (don't fall for it). There is a control under the dash that operates the temperature gauge. Basically that control is gone and must be replaced before you do have a heater core problem (which you will know, usually once your car overheats or you smell antifreeze). I know money is tough but i think price ranges on this to be done as more manual labor is required than replacing the actual part itself. You are looking at roughly $300.00.

2002 mitsubishi heater not working

I just spent my whole day with the same problem and it looks as if alot of other people have too. You need to replace the control valve. Take your glove box out, then take your center console peice out. Then you have to take the passenger side plastic off. This is the peice that surrounds the glove box. Once you have done this if you look underneath the dash towards the center console you will see a little box with an arm on it that goes down to an aluminium hose. That little box with the arm is the control valve.

02 galant heater not working

As me and my stepdad just discovered, the Galant came with an added feature to help the AC use less energy, by placing a heater valve within the dashboard. After pulling about 10-12 screws and half the dashboard apart, we simply opened the valve permanently. Many cars out there work that way all the time. Now after changing those lousy clamps into actual hose clamps by the firewall, my wife enjoys cool air in the summer and heat the whole winter. Hope this helps, there is a site that will actually show you a video of putting dash back together, as author did not film the disassembly.

Heater not dispersing hot air

There ia an actuator that controls the flap to change from hot to cold. You have to pull the bottom part of the dash and the whole blower motor housing. The part you are looking for is located just behind the radio and has an arm that goes into the heater core line. That is the piece you need. Its around $165 dollars and a dealer only part. And hope you have someone that can do it because mitsubishi charges over $500 in labor.
