You should never try to take apart the airbag unless you absolutely know what you are doing for you can injure yourself very seriously. But on that note, disconnect the battery.Behind where you grab on the steering wheel there should be some screws.Take those out and remove the front of the center of the steering wheel. That will give you access to the airbag. You may have to have special tools to take the airbag itself out. Then there should be the switch. If it is not there you might have to remove the whole steering wheel by removing the center nut then use a steering wheel puller to take the steering wheel off.It should be located on the steering wheel shaft.

My horn on my 1994 Ford Taurus doesn't work and the fuse is fine I just reconnected the wire that connects the two small horns but it still won't work.can u give me an idea on how to fix it

Check the horn relay and for voltage at the horn. If you are getting voltage to the horn, then the it could be that the horns themselves are bad.

How do I take the steering column apart? The airbag light is on, the cruise and horn dont work (all on Steering wheel).I also hear clicking when I turn the wheel.

It sounds like your clock spring, as we call it, has failed under the steering wheel. To remove the assembly you must first disconnect the negative battery cable to avoid deploying the air bag. There are 2 to 4 screws on the back of the steering wheel holding the horn pad onto the wheel. Remove those screws and carefully lift the horn pad off and disconnect the wire plugs. The horn wire is usually red and the air bag usually yellow. You will need a cheap steering wheel puller from the local auto zone to remove the steering wheel. They have a small round disc type that is easy to use and cheap. Now remove the large nut from the center of the steering shaft. Install the tool and remove the wheel. Now you will see a large round disc or air bag ribbon held on by a clip. use an pick tool and a small screw driver to remove this clip. Now trace the wires under the column and unplug the other end and you can remove the ribbon or clock spring. Now feed in the wiring for the new ribbon and reverse the process to reassemble. While you have the horn pad off test the horn switch to see if the horn pad is bad and may need replaced also. If the switch is good find the horn relay in the fuse box under the hood and see if when you press the horn does it get power from the switch. to test the horn itself apply 12volts to the two connectors on the horn and if it sounds it is OK. The system is made up of horn, horn relay, and horn switch. Thanks for looking for a solution at Fixya.com.

Horn doesn't work at the steering column

if you have and air bag in the steering wheel, the clock spring may be shorted open.or the horn switch in the steering column may also be shorted open.if there is a air bag present you may want to go to a dealer ship to have the system tested.hope this helps.also if there is no air bag check the horn switch for voltage and trace from there.

Horn wont work but works with the panic button

The computer controls the horn and looks for a signal from the Remote Keyless Entry system or the horn button. Due to the fact that the horn works with the RKE but not when you press the horn button, would cause me to suspect that the Clock Spring mechanism, which is also used to activate the Driver's Air Bag, might be malfunctioning. When the Clock Spring breaks, the computer does not get a signal from the horn button so it can not opperate the horn. If I remember correctly, when the Clock Spring goes out, the Air Bag light on the dash either does not light up for 2 seconds when you first start the vehicle, or it comes on and stays on all the time, which is to let you know that the Air Bag is not functioning, and the primary cause is the Clock Spring. So check your owners manual to see if the Air Bag warning light on the dash is functioning normally. Your local Chrysler dealer can quickly and easily check the function of the Clock Spring, Horn, and Air Bag system, through the use of the DRB scan tool. If it is in fact the Clock Spring that is malfunctioning, the Air Bag module and the steering wheel must be removed in order to replace the Clock Spring, which should be left to a trained professional, that has been educated on the proper handling of the Air Bag system. You wouldn't want to accidentally deploy the Air Bag, as you could be injured. That and Air Bag modules can be expensive to replace.

My horn stopped working and the fuse is ok i need to know were to look now

It might be the switch in the steering wheel, to find out for sure, take a piece of wire long enough to reach the horn from the battery,
hook one end to the positive terminal of battery, touch the wire connection at the horn with the other end, if it blows, the switch in the steering wheel is bad. ( be careful not to touch any metal parts with the wire, you will get sparks).

Would appreciate help for a Toyota Corolla 2007 non-working horn.

If the horn works with direct connection, and fuse, relay, and circuit breaker are all good, it's the switch in the steering wheel. If it is anything like the chrysler auto's, the switch and the air bag module is all one unit, can't replace just the switch, the whole thing, and it's about $700 to $800 for those units, at least it is here, and can only get them at a dealer.

1998 Ford windstar horn wiring

There is something called a clock spring in the column that is used for the airbag, horn and cruise control buttons. This clock spring if messed with will cause a/bag light to come on and possibly cause a/bag failure if there is a collision. DON"T mess with the wiring in the column. Run new wires in to the horn or install an a/market horn.
