More than likely it is the Oil Pressure Switch especially if your valves are not rattling or water temp is not elevating. The switch is located by distributor and only cost 16.99 at autozone. I would try this before exploring pump problems.

Either the oil pump is going bad or the sump screen on the pump is clogged.

Loss of oil pressure

How many miles are on the motor? Are you using the correct weight oil?

As oil warms, it gets thinner, and the pressure will drop as a result. When you say the pressure comes back after re-starting, is that after the vehicle has been sitting long enough for the oil to cool down, or does the pressure come back if you shut down and immediately restart?

I have a 2002 dodge ram 1500 w 176,000 + miles. When i come to a stop the check engine gauge comes on and the oil gauges immediatly drops. If I idle then the check engine light turns off. I done hear any...

Well Check your oil preshure with a proper gauge!
may have not sufisiant oil preshuire!!! or it might just be a faulty preshure senser!
Better that than defective oil pump! use caution as insefitient oil preshure will lead to ireprable engine dammage!!!!!

Have a good one .Bruce.

Vehicle: 2000 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9L, Automatic Transmission, 171,000 miles. Vehicle will stop running, just shut off, after about 10 minutes of driving. Then after 5 minutes of waiting it will start again...

the first suspect is the igniton switch. when this happens, take the ign key and just barlely turn it, either way, not enough to go off/on just a little tweak, it the lights come back on or flicker, that ign switch will need replacement.

Come to stop 99 Ram oil pressure drops to 0 check gauges light.

Change the oil! The 318Cu in V8 (5.2 liter) engine has a problem with sludge build up on the oil pump pickup tube screen. This engine requires oil changes at or before 3500 miles with a high detergent oil.
