How to change oil

First find out what type of oil your car requires. examples are 5W 20 or 5W 30, These are examples of weight usually the manufacture list it on the oil cap. Then determine the type reqular or synthetic. As for brand thats up to you. Then make sure you have the filter. There are some that are screw on canister and some are oil filters.you need to know the part you require. Now for the oil pan there are different drain plug sizes some are starting at 12mm 13mm 14mm ect.. know your size. All in a nut shell you open drain plug let oil drain out. Install the drain plug, then reove oil filter, install new oil filter. Fill the engine in the engine oil fill cover and add (I always use 4 as start) you oil start at 4 quarts. Start the engine idle for a few seconds. check the oil level by using the oil dipstick. add if necessary, and recheck for leaks.

WHAT OIL IT NEEDS MY 2000 VW BEETLE 2.0 L WITH 140000 MILES

I found 2 listings for the 2.0L engine, A and B. The 'A' had no info on oil type, the 'B' stated all temperature ranges require type 'SJ' and 5/30 or 5/40 weight. Because the mileage is 140k, I am wondering how often you must add oil between changes. If you add none, or under a quart, 5/30 is ok, if you must add oil more often, use the heavier weight, 5/40.

Need to know what the symbols mean on my dash lost

It's your oil light.

Check your oil light as it's most likely low. Other causes can be a bad sensor, or there's a pressure leak

I have a leak in my 97 automatic subaru legacy and need to add some fluid to my transmission just to get it to a shop. It doesn't say in the manual or on any site I've been to where to add it or what kind...

The type best used is "Genuine Subaru Automatic Transmission Fluid Type-HP or IDEMITSU ATF HP. you add it through the dip stick hole. You may also wish to add a transmission leak oil to swell the gaskets and stop the leak add it the same way if you choose to use it. both of these should be available at your local auto parts store like NAPA. Engine rattle noise with oil change light on

Your oil level is low. Wait until the motor is cold and check your oil level. You could also check your level after a drive just shut the motor down and wait 20 minutes for the oil to seep back down out of the block. Pull the dipstick, whipe it clean and did it in again and see what your reading is. If it is between Min and Max towards the middle of both it is fine. If It is all the way up by Max you may have too much, but I bet your oil level is low, I bet when you check it, it will be down near the min mark. If thats the case, find out what type of oil your car uses and buy one quart of oil and add some of it to your motor. I recommend you add about a quarter of the bottle, then stop check the dip stick if still low add a little more. If the level is good then stop. It is critical not to add too much oil. When cars get older they tend to run hot and burn oil. My van does the same thing, I can change the oil and add 5 quarts and about 3 weeks to a month later I have to add a little more and I usually can hear when i need to add some oil because I get a rattle/ping and the idle just doesnt sound right, but once I add the little bit of oil everything is all good.

How can change engine oil?

under the car you need to remove the bolt in the oil pan drain oil. remove the oil filter.
replace the oil plug (bolt) make sure not to cross thread it(or it will leak)
open the new oil filter add 1/2 a bottle of oil make sure to rub oil on the o ring and replace the filter makeing sure not to cross thread it.Then add the remaining 1/2 plus 3-4 qts. of oil. You should check with the owners manual for the recemended amount of oil needed for your car type.
