Question about 1989 Nissan Pathfinder

1 Answer

I recently disconnected my battery in my 1989 Pathfinder so I could clean terminals. When I put clamps back on battery the truck is completely dead. I recharge battery and run the truck for a min. 1 hour and then shut off motor. When I try to restart truck it is completely dead. Did I do something to the computer or what? I am confused.

How do I install a battery in a 2005 Nissan pathfinder?

so is this a trick question?

unbolt the battery hold-down clamp with the necessary socket/ wrenches

remove the black cable first with the appropriate wrench or socket

the main thing is this:

make sure you don't complete the circuit & cause a short by touching the positive cable / terminal with your tool(s). that's why some models have a big red plastic cover or rubber cap over the positive... if you don't have it, use a rag or something to make sure you don't cause a spark when your tool touches the terminal.

clean the cable terminals w/ a commercial battery cleaner (foam type) or be cheap and use baking soda/water to clean them w/ a wire brush.

if you're too timid to follow through, most auto parts stores & walmart does the install for FREE

How do i remove the battery of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring to put a new one

First thing get the code to the radio so that you can turn the radio back on . Turn everything off . Disconnect the earth lead off then the positive lead. Remove the battery hold down strap /clamp and lift battery out. Ensure that the replacement battery has the same poles in the same places or the leads may not fit correctly. Place the battery in position and fit the hold down clamp/strap. Fit positive lead after ensuring that the terminal is shiny clean inside. Fit earth lead after cleaning the terminal . Tighten clamps securely. Turn igniting on and wait a few minutes for the CPU to reprogram. Start engine and wait for the ECM to sort out any losses from the battery removal.. If there are lights tha stay on it may be necessary to have a code reader used to reset the CPU

1997 vauxhall astra won't start completely dead

Sounds like the ground wire is loose or corroded. First look at the battery terminals and clamps, clean any and all corrosion and reassemble. Next follow both the Positive wire and the Ground to where they connect, opposite of the Battery, Clean and check for tightness, reassemble. Also, locate the engine ground wire, usually a bare metal braided cable from the engine to the fender or fire wall and check again. Could possibly be your ignition but start simple with the battery and connections. A test light or ohms meter will make this much easier.

When i turn the key all power is lost. i wait 5 seconds and the power comes back but every time i turn the key it dies again.

Check your battery terminals and make sure they are clean by removing and lightly sanding with some rough sand paper (wipe down when finished), also the wires/cables going to them, they should not move when tightened on terminals. Also clean and tighten the negative (earth) cable/wire and if you have easy access check to see if the main starter motor lead is tight, be careful if you need to tighten it as you can short out the positive (starter motor lead) with the negative (anywhere on car thats metal 95% of it). You have poor connection somewhere which is causing your problem.

I have a 1996 hyundai accent it ran fine took battery off and put it back on now no spark and wont start

Check the ground wire, a black connected to the ( - ) pole, it might have been disconnected. Clean the battery clamp and battery terminals from rust and oxidation, tighten up the TERMINAL. Remember ( + )positive pole is RED and negative ( - ) pole is black, sometimes no plastic cover!
Taaah!

Car clicks once when key is turned. battery checks fine.1995 dodge caravan 3.0 engine. car was fine before. No signs of problem.

Just disconnect the clamps at the battery teminals. Clean the battery post of dirt deposits, as well as the battery clamps. After the cleaning job, reconnect the clamps tightly back at the battery terminals.
Now you can test your car, by turning the key. It should
start unless the battery is discharged.

Battery in my truck shows +12 and post shows -12.

are you hooking the meter up backwards ?
have you recently charged the battery from a " dead " state ? if so you may have charged the battery to its reverse polarity. To correct this, completely drain the battery by hooking a headlamp or something like that to the battery, wait until the battery is completely drained and recharge with putting the RED clamp on POSS. and the BLACK clamp on NEG.

1989 Ford F-150 won't start

I have found that Ford products are very sensitive to poor grounds and poor connections at the battery or starter/ starter solenoid. Clean all grounds and terminal connectors really through. Don't just look and judge them to be clean. After market add on battery clamps will corrode where you put the cable into them. Be sure to take them apart and clean there also. Also ck to be sure your battery is putting out the cranking amps it is
rated at. If not sure take it to a shop and have it tested. Good luck.
