Question about 2003 Chevrolet Suburban 1500

1 Answer

I have an '04 Z71 suburban with 121k miles. I came off the expressway into heavy traffic at a light. As traffic moves forward slowly, the truck starts shaking violently, like thrusting. (The check engine light is on but it was reading something about emissions and was already on prior.) The truck then dies, so I put it in neutral and attempted to start it. It started on 2nd try. It happened again but the circumstances were different. This time I hadnt been driving very long, 5 minutes or so. I pulled up to the school to drop off my child. It starts shaking violently, just to emphasize its not the steering wheel, but the entire vehicle shaking. I dont have much room to go forward but the couple inches I moved forward didnt resolve the shaking (since I was told the idle might be weak). It didnt die again though but the rpm was jumping even though the vehicle was at a stop. It felt like it was about to die like the last time. I had my mechanic look at it and he said he didnt find anything wrong with the idle and drove around and it didnt happen to him.

Also, the battery light came on when it died the first time. However, the battery is new and the terminals were checked too. So its not poor contact.

Does it gallop when you are sitting idle and the RMP gauge bounce up and down between 1000 and 1500? If so, clean the throttle body and see if that solves the problem. I had a similar problem with my 03 Yukon XL (same truck) and cleaning the throttle body fixed it.

Oil presser guage keeps jumping way up pass where it is supposed to be ,But i have oil pressure and it's not running hot or anything do i need to worrie about it.It's on a 04 chevy suburban Z71

On most car engines there is an overpressure relief valve that returns oil to the sump. It is usually on the side of the oil pump. Yours may be stuck closed.

It is best to get it fixed as you may blow a seal somewhere.

Or, it may be that the oil pressure sender is faulty. To find that out you can replace it or have a mechanic measure the pressure at the engine block.

it calls for 5W-30 but in those temps, assuming you have a fair amount of miles, use 10W-40 or if you can find it, 5W-50-unless your's is a leaker, use full synthetic too, it is MUCH better for your engine and it can go much longer (over 5000 miles) between changes with no issues.

I own 2001 Kia Optima LX, it has 121k miles on it. The check engine light is on, and recently it jerks when moving. It does not pickup speed. It moves at 20-40 miles/hour, then after a while it picks up...

The locking steering wheel is a mystery to me , but the poor performance and check engine light make me think fuel filter / fuel pump.
I had a very bad experience with an 02 kia , only had 50,000 miles on it when the timing belt went and destroyed the engine , so........ i always mention to people with kia's to have the belt adjusted and inspected or replaced if you don't know how old the belt is.
