The ignition control module needs to be replaced. It is located on the cover you remove to replace the spark plugs. You can have it tested before you buy a new one to be sure it's bad.

I have a 2004 geand am. the motor turns over but wont start. I changed the fuel pump, the ignition is good, fuses are all good but it will not start

Check for spark (pull a spark plug and arc it to a grounded surface) and check for fuel to the engine (can be done through the spark plug hole opened by removing the spark plug)

My 1997 grand am runs rough, theres oil around the 1 spark plug, if it sits and runs for a 10-15 min it will start to get hot. also the gas gauge will say 1/2 tank then after a mile or 2 it will say 1/4 ...

Those are troubled cars and older ones are even more troubled with problems I would sell it and get anything but a pontiac and a dodge stay away warning! warning! You got high miles on that ? Its a money drain.

Has fire at plugs and fuel turns over but wont start

You need three things; You have Spark and fuel, air is the last criteria that needs to be met. I'm guessing although the vehicle has spark, it may be weak, and if it has fuel, it may low fuel pressure. Proper fuel pressure is key for any injected system and will require a gauge to measure.

I have a 1997 grand am 4 cyl. that won't fire. Battery is good. It turns over but it will not start. This happened for about 5 tries yesterday but it started after that 3 or 4 more times with no problem.

Fuel injection system clogged, Fuel pump clogged, Lack of constant fuel pressure. Check fuel pressure, check for spark, also check voltage (improper voltage will prevent running).

I have a 1997 grand prix and it wont start.

Start with the Cheaper Fix First. Change the Fuel Filter and Get the Fuel Pump Checked for Preasure. That Timing belt is a Big job and you will need to reset the Timing which can be Very Difficult. Did it run Smooth Before???? If so the Timing belt is Probably Fine anyway.
