Thank you for your previous answer about the oil. What causes power steering to jerk when making a turn?

jerking can be a seal in the steering rack has gone the the pressure is building up on the opposite side. this would push the steering in the opposite way to how you want to turn the vehicle. it would require the steering rack to be replaced or repaired at a repair shop, sometimes it just as cheaper to just replace the rack, . sme repair shop can repair the rack but you would need to remove it or the charge will cost more if they have to remove it.

Stering jerks while turning

this indicates air in the system. check reservoir level, change filter in the reservoir or change power steering oil
have an accredited power steering shop do a pressure teat as it may be the pump or faulty valves in the steering box/rack

2005 Chevy Cobalt- power steering message, check engine light on-

I too had this problem, and it was finally resolved after tracing the wires from the BCM to the steering column. A few of the wires needed to be repaired and repositioned.
